Alum: Portsmouth High School is above average academically. The classes are a good size so you can receive extra help if needed. The school spirit is high with an exceptional band and sports have top notch facilities. It’s a well kept school and the surrounding neighborhoods are nice and very safe. It’s a small island community where everyone knows everyone. The beaches are beautiful and Portsmouth High School is rated the highest in Aquidneck Island. I really enjoyed my 4 years at this school and loved participating in the band traveling to many events and parades. They have also made advancements in the technology department to keep up with current technologies. At the present time, they are renovating the school auditorium with a state of the art sound system and brand new seating chairs. All this through the donations of many of the parents and residents of Portsmouth and Aquidneck Island. I would recommend this school to everyone who wants a great edit for their children.... Senior: My teachers were very kind and made sure we had what we needed to succeed. There were lots of fun extracurricular activities to take part in and I made lots of good friends throughout high school. Even through COVID-19, our teachers did everything in their power to make sure we didn't fall behind and did as much as we could to learn what we needed to learn. But our counselors were very unhelpful unless you badgered them constantly for help; even with college applications and advising. I had a nice high school experience, but I just wish I had had a bit more support, especially during my senior year when I was applying for college and writing lots of essays.
