We have found diverse and exceptional athletic and artistic opportunities which provide opportunities for all children. There are extensive and supportive wrap around services. The Guidance programs offer students a real world template and help right size a path that is appropriate for each child. As a parent of a junior, I have been pleased to find the districts college prep activities a perfect balance of communicating opportunities with empowering students to take ownership of their own futures. Overall we have found wonderful sense of community and Tiger Pride! Students support each other and their extracurricular activities and we have found this is reinforced as early as elementary school. They celebrate each other and encourage positivity. Freshman: This high school is a solid choice for students looking for a decent education without any bells and whistles. The teachers are knowledgeable and committed to helping their students succeed. The curriculum is rigorous enough to prepare students for college, but not so overwhelming that they can't enjoy their high school years. The extracurricular activities are plentiful, but not always well-funded. The facilities are well-maintained, but not luxurious. Sophomore: Pomperaug High School is a great place for students to learn and grow as scholars. The building is a safe space for both students and educators to grow as a community where we all support each other. The staff is incredibly kind and ensures the convenience and safety of the students. The educators are over-qualified in the sense that they are amazingly kind and respectful and they do their very best to ensure the best for their students. Region 15's school system allows for learning opportunities in other areas such as kindness, respect, and organizational skills. Because of how caring the teachers are, the students are friendly and polite as well. Niche User: I loved the school system! I have been apart of this community for 13 years and just recently graduated from the high school. The main takeaway I had with the school was the connections students and teachers created as well as the interactions between each other. Also in 6th grade with Beacon Falls and Prospect collaboration is very beneficial to a students social life by introducing them to a new set of kids and learn from one another. The focus of academics are immaculate and will prepare you for college. There are plenty of clubs and sports teams that are offered for everyone to enjoy, and it is easy to create a new club. I would highly recommend this for making new friends, doing something you enjoy, or trying something new. My last point to make is that parent involvement is very simple and they can easily be on top of late work. Seeing the students page can make sure they are on the right track for future plans. Senior: As a senior, this year has been tough. But although half of my senior year got taken away because of the Corona virus, my years in the wallingford public school district as a student have been phenomenal. I have never had a teacher who wasn’t looking out for their students or our future. I think that as we grew up it was good to have a diverse crowd of people in our schools and get to know people from not only Wallingford but other towns. I can definitely say that as a student, I feel very safe in school. We have a great staff and administration and they have all been trained to take precautions during any type of dangerous situation. As a senior during these difficult times, I have realized how much teachers truly care about their students in this district. They have done all kinds of things and put in all their effort to make this a memorable experience no matter what. Junior: Oxford School District was an incredible place to grow up in. The teachers have always been kind and tried their hardest, even if that wasn't good. The schools themselves were spread out, and often had no heat which was difficult, however, especially the high school is good because it is relatively new compared to the rest of the district. The administration throughout the district is alright, not the best but they tried their best. Overall I believe it is a great place to be compared to other school districts. Senior: My family and I have been a part of the New Haven School District since we moved in my 4th-grade year and since then my parents and I have been dealing with the best and the worst of the way the School District handles the concerns of the educational system. For one, I have had over twenty-five total teachers throughout my eight years in the school district, and of course there is always a teacher that a student doesn't get a long with or never sees eye-to-eye with, but when I look back, each teacher's preparation, enthusiasm and the pride they took in their jobs is undeniable. A few of the small instances when my parents had grown frustrated with the school system, some I might have been too young to care, are the bussing situation, same classmates year to year, and each of the schools occasionally having different schedules. Senior: I had a great experience in the Waterbury School District. I went to Frank G. Regan elementary school and Waterbury Arts Magnet School for middle and high school. I had many opportunities to challenge myself with advanced placement courses and the early college experience. I joined many clubs and programs while in school and played three sports while in high school. I wish there were more incentives in school and field trips that we could go to. I think the district could also do more to inform students about college and the application process. I think that SAT prep should be more rigorous as well. I had to find resources on my own to study for it. Now there is a 530 club to help students score well on the math section of the SAT, and I really wish I had that when I was a sophomore or junior because it would have been exactly what I needed, but now it's too late.
