Junior: The Jericho School District is a high-achieving and competitive school district. Students always aim to do their best and have shown excellence through their work. The teachers and administration are caring, kind, and strict when needed. They create a safe environment for students to be in and are there for students when needed. Jericho also provides a variety of extracurriculars to help students explore their interests. From sports to clubs, several activities are made available to students. Senior: As a current student at Roslyn High School, I have experienced first hand that teachers are always ready to help and see their students succeed, and form bonds with students to grasp an understanding of each students learning style. The vast variety of clubs and other extra curricular activities ensure that every student has multiple ways to express their interests, and make life long friends. There are many places in the school where one can feel comfortable and make themselves at home with doing homework and enjoying a meal of choice. Senior: I have had a great experience with the Great Neck Public Schools over the 13 years I have been attending schools in the district. For kindergarten, I went to Parkville, for elementary school I went to E.M. Baker, for middle school I went to Great Neck North Middle School, and for high school I have been in Great Neck North High School. Let me just say that everything is amazing in these schools. I loved all of my teachers over the years, as they have really prepared me for my next step in life. I love the clubs and activities offered at the schools, as there are so many of them that the schools offer. Lastly, I love the schools’ environments, as they all have such a positive and supporting environment and help each student get through every day. Senior: As someone who attended all four years of high school in Syosset, I greatly valued all the opportunities given to me through sports, clubs, and academics. I believe there is something for everyone and Syosset High School portrays it well. Parent: I grew up in Hewlett and I am raising my daughter here. The academics are amazing. The community is welcoming and they do so many amazing events for families. Starting from FECC (early childhood center), which was warm and helped create an amazing foundation. Then onto the elementary schools, which teaches accountability along with social, emotional and academics. This district has it all! One last bit of information, your child can get credits for college once in the high school. This is an overlooked bonus but definitely great for kids and parents. This district has it all ! Senior: Manhasset is undoubtedly a top school district. The academic, athletics, and arts opportunities are extensive and impressive. Teachers are very knowledgeable about their subject matter and often do their best to support students however they can. Almost every student is above average and has extraordinary accomplishments. However, parents expect for their kids to be the best and there is a toxic competitive culture. In high school, many students are stressed out and resort to cheating. They often still succeed, but they feel the need to sacrifice their integrity to accomplish the goals they feel pressured to complete by the community. Nevertheless, I still graduated from this school feeling prepared to attend my dream college and well educated on the past, present, and future. Freshman: I just moved to Bethpage this year and because of the school's campus and curriculum, it was very easy to adapt. The school has a welcoming vibe and the community is friendly. The teachers do a great job making sure students are comfortable with the material before moving on. The teachers are super supportive and they honestly feel like a friend of my own. The variety in this school is not like any other. There is even a club which celebrates diversity and I have learned so much about other countries during my time in that club. Sophomore: Plainview-Old Bethpage John F Kennedy High School is a fantastic highschool to send your kids too in every way! The kids here are friendly, most of the time, very very smart, and talented! The academics at POB are one of the very best in the state! I prefer POB over other highly rated districts like Jericho and Syosset because although POB is very academically competitive you still feel at ease attending the highschool! The staff and guidance counseler are super sweet! The food is good for high school food especially the wraps! Additionally, it is very obvious that safety is important to the district! Senior: I have attended the East Meadow School District schools for the past 13 years and I love it! East Meadow has an amazing group of teachers that truly care about their students. They go above and beyond to make sure all their students excel. As a middle school and high school student, East Meadow has given me the opportunities to join different clubs, sports, and be part of numerous academic and musical activities that I will cherish and hold onto for the rest of my life. I have participated in their marching band program and have marched in The Columbus Day Parade in NYC for the past 3 years, The Cherry Blossom Parade in Washington D.C. , and I have participated in the annual Tuba Christmas for the past 4 years in NYC's Rockefeller Center. Senior: The Port Washington Union Free School District has provided me with an all-accepting educational community for the past 12 years, and I have been fortunate enough to have such a strong support system working alongside me in my studies. Although more recently the athletic rankings may have been on a decline, the spirit/ camaraderie seen between the huge crowd of students/ staff who come out to supPORT has definitely not. Students are encouraged to take an active role in the school community, making new clubs and social media accounts for clubs/ teams, and entertainment events afterschool at Paul D. Schreiber High School. These include a musical and play, orchestrated by the exceptional theatre/ arts program, and an event entirely unique to Schreiber... Schreiber Slam. Senior: The staff and faculty are extremely friendly! Starting to have a lot more racial diversity in the recent years. Similarly, there is a lot more effort being made for students to have easy access to seek for help. Wish there were more diversity in the types of classes you can take. The school is International Baccalaureate (IB) as opposed to Advanced Placement (AP). No class rank, no grade rank, just has GPA and grading on a 0-100 scale. There is an annual "event" called Red and Blue where students compete in variety of things such as sports and dances (participation is optional). Besides that, there are multitudes of opportunities for students to interact with one another. It's great, really, if you're not a social recluse like me (haha). Parent: I have had 2 children in the school district. One is currently a senior and my eldest graduated in 2020. I can't express in words how amazing this school district is. The rigor of the academics, the incredible teachers and staff that are truly dedicated to the success of your children. The school district has received regional, national and international accolades and recognition. The high school offers numerous AP classes and electives, PLTW Engineering, and a wide variety of arts and music classes. Students are involved in a variety of sports, and we have a NY State Championship winning Marching Band. I am extremely proud of the success of our students and the school district. Other: The school district and town has a lot of great things going for it. It offers a vast diversity of courses for students to explore, it celebrates it's rich diversity, and allows students to go in many different directions as far as what they want to get out of their education; artistically, vocationally, and academically. While the wealth of IB classes at the HS offers a great academic learning experience for the student population, one drawback is the not so subtle attempt to persuade students to complete the full IB diploma at the expense of more well rounded opportunities and pathways that the district wonderfully provides. This comes across mostly as imaging for the district as opposed to what is really best for your child and student population collectively. Senior: The Valley Stream Central High School district is one of the top rated districts in the nation. My school specifically has been named a Blue Ribbon school by the US Department of Education. I have learned so much at my high school and the staff/teachers are phenomenal. Our district stresses dignity and staying dignified which our students embody almost everyday. The VSCHSD forms students to become leaders in the communities. There are many great qualities about the VSCHSD, but sometimes there are some hiccups, such as false school threats. These false threats have made students fear their safety going to school, however our school district reassures its students that they will be safe when going to school.
