Alum: The academic standards are incredibly high at this district, the high school is %100 a college prep high school and prepares the students extremely well for the content and workload of a typical college student. The teachers are phenomenal, they take the time to adhere to the student's needs and genuinely care for the wellbeing of every student. The heart of this school district is with the teachers, however the School Board tends not to listen to their concerns.The theater program is very advanced with a large stage and many musical/play productions. Senior: I enjoyed my high school experience at Shorewood, but I also know that my success and happiness have a lot to do with my race and interests. Shorewood is not at all diverse, mostly because the North Shore area of Milwaukee is predominantly white. I also have interests in music and the performing arts, and because of that, I was able to thrive in Shorewood's arts programs. However, they started to decline during Covid and now are just a fraction of what they once were when I started high school. Shorewood's campus and overall location is very safe. We are not at all good at sports and participation in sports teams is very low. Most of the teachers are good, and the school does a very adequate job of preparing you for college.... Senior: I loved my experience with the Greendale School District. All throughout my school years, I was surrounded by teachers that cared about me and encouraged me to learn. Greendale always provided a comforting environment that allowed for me to focus on my studies and embrace my academic potential. Greendale is not perfect, of course- every school district has some flaws- but I always felt very lucky to go to Greendale. Our staff members are set on pushing their students towards success. The teachers push their students so that they can fulfill their full potential. Along with academics, Greendale has always offered a multitude of extracurricular activities for the students to get involved in. Senior: The teachers and staff are amazing. You can tell that the majority of the teachers in the schools truly care about the students and want them to succeed. The curriculum being taught includes things that will help students later in life. It is a benefit that students are able to participate in many different opportunities through the schools, like all of the amazing extracurriculars. The students also benefit when they get to Franklin High School, where they get to choose some of their classes. Some things that the school district could improve include, discipline, and rule-setting for the students, especially in Forest Park Middle School. The school district could also increase more funding for band and other school clubs. Senior: I transferred to Wauwatosa East High School my junior year and I was filled with nerves and jitters, unsure of what to expect: But on my first day of school I knew it was going to be different than my previous high school. When I came to East, it felt as if I had walked into a completely different high school reality. People wore the clothes they wanted and didn't conform to others' opinions, they are strong and artsy, all opposites of what I had grown up with. This new sense of individuality was so refreshing and proved, good high school experiences do exist. Instead of feeling like the new girl, I felt as if I had always attended East. I feel that most high schools do not have the amount of love and acceptance that the students and teachers radiate. The teachers at East are not afraid to confront issues of inequality and underlying issues within our society. Transferring to Wauwatoa has been eyeopening. Alum: I went to South Milwaukee for my entire life from K5-12. Overall, I had a good experience however, I felt like I was held back academically and couldn't learn at a faster pace for myself. School became less interesting to me because it felt like I wasn't being challenged and a lot of the courses felt like review of what I already knew. High school was better when I was able to pick my classes and the class schedule was in a block format which prepared me for college. The overall atmosphere was good, but I know new kids had a hard time joining in. The students and staff have close bonds and typically know each other through family and past events or sports. The majority of the teachers were great, you could tell many of them were passionate. The art teacher in middle school honestly tore down a lot of kids' confidence and passion for art. Senior: The teachers in Whitnall high school are amazing! They are very helpful and they all care for the students. They teaching is Whitnall is very understandable. Anyone can understand. The classrooms are also very convenient, the school doesn't have too many students occupied in a class or too few. the class size is just perfect. The lunch ladies too are great, their food is also awesome. I am glad I attend Whitnall high school. I also love all the wonderful opportunities Whitnall high school provides for students, opportunities like volunteering to teach your fellow students with courses they are struggling with, wonderful clubs are available where one can showcase their talent, and community-based opportunities too for students who like to help out in their community. I also like Whitnall high school's theater. They have an amazing auditorium where plays are presented and talents are showcased. Alum: I was a student in the Greenfield School District from 1-12 grades. The teachers were fantastic and the resources the schools provided to help you succeed were really helpful. The high school has nice commons areas for students to relax and do some work. The library had a expansive collection of books and good breakout rooms for group projects. Guidance counselors were always helpful and resourceful as well. One thing I would change would be the parking and traffic situation in the high school. Senior: I loved elementary school, I met some life-long friends there and I really discovered some things I enjoyed that I have continued on as hobbies and even as work throughout my life so far. Middle school was rough, but it is for everyone. I would definitely like to see some improvement there, staff wise mostly. The highschool is probably the place where I have made some of my best memories. I loved the atmosphere there when I first walked in freshman year and I have continued to love it through sports and classes. Our tech program is amazing and some of my closest friends have gotten apprenticeships, full careers, and even college fully paid for through it! I discovered that I was good at working with metal and now I love doing metal work as a hobby on the side! Overall I enjoyed my experiences with the district and the teaching staff is mostly the reason why I did. Senior: I really enjoyed the Brown Deer School District! Overall a very friendly and welcoming environment and very diverse. The one thing I would change would be to add more of a variety of classes. For example Home Economics would be a very beneficial class to add to the curriculum. The teachers do an excellent job at preparing and teaching the curriculum to their students and getting them perpared for college. The staff are overall very helpful and friendly toward their students. The Administration, while they do work hard, have showned to be a little uninformed on their students and teachers needs. Senior: In my 14 years in the WAWM school district I have strived for nothing but greatness. The teachers they hire are nothing short of amazing. The staff both in and outside of the district all have wonderful stories to tell. No matter what school in the district you go, you will find people who actually care about the future that is right in front of them. The district also provides excellent resources to their students. Senior: Milwaukee public schools are great for people that can’t afford private school . Some downsides are that there’s a lot of different type of people and the environment is a very different from other schools.
