Parent: Great teachers, great community. The administration is in tune with the kids, listens to the parents and is able to get people involved. Many opportunities to develop young citizens occur with this school. We've gone on many educational trips, as well as travel options with the Spanish group and music program. The school does several fund raisers like a annual cash bash and golf outing. They do nightly calls to inform parents what is going on the next day as well as newsletters. If you are not informed it's because you don't want to be. Off site programs like the girl scouts participate with the elementary schools. They encourage volunteering and giving back to the younger students through tutor programs and sports programs. The robotics program and the band program are one of the best in the state. Alum: I went to Columbia from kindergarten to 12th grade and I believe this school district set me up for success. The environment fostered creative thinking and promoted advanced academics, and the parent involvement is unparalleled. In the high school, multiple AP classes are offered and the option to dual enroll at Jackson College is also available. The combination of AP classes and dual enrollment allows students to enter college more prepare than ever before. Columbia also has excellent sports programs. Parent: Good small school with many opportunities. Academically, your student will need to do the work to get the grades. My student’s sports were very productive experiences. College readiness has greatly improved. One year after graduation, our student made the Dean’s list and still playing their sport at a college level. Freshman: Michigan center is a great school and they do an amazing job at everything. The teachers connect with the students and if needed, they give one on one help with each individual student. Michigan Center is a bully free, environmental safe, and ni judging zone. Everyone may not like one another but Michigan Center always "Fakes it til we make it". The sports are always supported by everyone. Their food is decent and everyone is nice. Everyone supports everything. From Football to soccer. From Band to cheer. From clubs to just hanging out with one another. Everyone is welcomed, doesn't matter of race, religion, language, grnder, everyone is important. We take serious matters into our hands and when solved, everything is happy. Senior: The school at Springport is absolutely amazing. You can tell that the teachers there have big hearts and want their students to succeed. There is also plenty of options for sports and extra curricular activities. Option include, football, cheer, cross country, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, power lifting, NHS, NAHS, theater, quiz bowl, track, baseball, softball, and many more. Alum: From a former JPS K-12 student. It is a diverse district that offers many opportunities. The district shows care for the town's history. In elementary I learned so much about Jackson itself. About the Jackson prison, Ella Sharp and the famous people from here. Never in JPS have I felt like I didn't have opportunities. They have so many programs for sports, academics and the arts. Especially at its high school. They offer scholarships, a multitude of AP classes and any kind of club you can think of and if not they will let you create one. You have the opportunity to strive for greatness. Students you hold so much power can hold an event or fund raise and JPS will lend a hand in that. They provide free necessities in a discreet way to students who need it. At JPS everyone is equal. They push all students to grow and accomplish. Alum: Being such a small farm town, diversity can be hard to come by and it shows in the culture of the area. More can be done to teach both the students and faculty about inclusion and acceptance. Senior: My experience at East Jackson is unexplainable. Our community serves as one. There has been many times where families have gone through tough times and our entire community comes together to help each other out, such as spaghetti dinners, cancer awareness games, and free caring dinners. I love that everyone offers a helping hand. Teachers are always willing to stay after to help students with their work and care so much about the students.
