Alum: As a former student for Stevenson, I recommend sending your child here! They have great resources and the teachers are always going to push your child to be the best. If I was falling behind, they would set me up with resources that made me succeed. Because of this, I was able to graduate with honors! The food is wonderful and they have a ton of healthy options. They take each student into consideration and always offer the best solution to any problem. The only reason why I took off a star is because of the sports. I played volleyball and I felt like sometimes politics got involved and it affected playing time for some of the students. This created a lot of toxicity within the team and created unnecessary drama. However, on the bright side, a lot of the sports teams perform really well and the coaches do care about the players well-being. That was the only downside of attending Stevenson. Parent: Sent our daughter here and were very glad we did. Excellent preparation for college, course rigor and level of teaching is extremely high. Extracurricular activities are abundant -- so many options for enriching athletics, cultural and social groups for students to join. Facilities are top notch. The school has gotten quite large, which is a challenge at times, and the competition for higher level classes has increased, but we found it manageable. Great resources, and their college counseling team was very helpful in guiding our child's path toward the college of her choice. Overall, excellent preparation for college success.... Senior: I have had a great experience with the Great Neck Public Schools over the 13 years I have been attending schools in the district. For kindergarten, I went to Parkville, for elementary school I went to E.M. Baker, for middle school I went to Great Neck North Middle School, and for high school I have been in Great Neck North High School. Let me just say that everything is amazing in these schools. I loved all of my teachers over the years, as they have really prepared me for my next step in life. I love the clubs and activities offered at the schools, as there are so many of them that the schools offer. Lastly, I love the schools’ environments, as they all have such a positive and supporting environment and help each student get through every day. Senior: Libertyville Highschool is an amazing school to learn at and an environment to learn at. There are many amazing teachers that are very passionate about teaching and helping you no matter what, even if they have to stay a little longer. There are various courses you can take ranging from philosophy and film to jewelry making. At Libertyville Highschool there is also a long list of clubs that are available for all students to join such as the Cr-8 which is the engineering club at the school or the cosmetic club. Parent: This public school system offers superior education to all but the most elite private schools such that any kid lucky enough to live in the district has an excellent opportunity to learn, achieve and matriculate at an elite university despite not having all the benefits of upbringing or affluence. Public education is the great equalizer in society and very few district in the USA do it better than Ladue. Compared to where and when I went to public school, the instruction my kids receive is like that which was offered to the richest kids who attended the best private country day school. In terms of value, nothing beats the Ladue School District. In areas where public school systems are plagued with poor performance, this kind of education would cost you 30K or more per year per student at a very competitive private school. Senior: The teachers are qualified, and kind people, and I have learned a throughout my time at ETHS. I feel very prepared for my collegiate pursuits and very lucky that I got to attend this school. However, as with any school, you get out what you put in. ETHS definitely has the resources that students need to be prepared for college and the real world from before-school breakfast programs to the wild-kit academy, a weekend program that students can attend if they need extra help. ETHS's curriculum of classes prepares students for different career paths and opportunities, from academic classes like AP English to more trades-focused classes like Manufacturing Technology. Parent: I grew up in Hewlett and I am raising my daughter here. The academics are amazing. The community is welcoming and they do so many amazing events for families. Starting from FECC (early childhood center), which was warm and helped create an amazing foundation. Then onto the elementary schools, which teaches accountability along with social, emotional and academics. This district has it all! One last bit of information, your child can get credits for college once in the high school. This is an overlooked bonus but definitely great for kids and parents. This district has it all ! Junior: This school gets a lot of attention for the successes of its students and faculty. Rightly so, as sports teams routinely go to State and students are generally high-achieving and talented. It’s definitely not perfect; namely, the fitness center is rather like a dungeon, but there’s on-going construction to improve areas like just that. As far as teachers, the physics department isn’t very good, but other than that, you will easily find very qualified and dedicated teachers who care a lot about their students and their learning.
