Senior: I haven't had to experience any other school district besides my own, but from the stories that I've heard of other schools, I have a really supportive and top-notch school district. Thanks to my parents, they put their time and effort into investing a great school district for me. The friends I made along the way were not bad, and there wouldn't really be much to change. In junior high, I thought that some of the rooms such as the locker rooms and bathrooms were a bit dirty and old, but that was about the worst experience. I didn't experience much bullying so I can't tell my experience from that side. Senior: Sherwood is a fantastic growing town, with a school district that draws young families to the area. It has great programs for all ages, although my personal worst part of the experience was the interaction with the Talented and Gifted program, which did little for me in my time there. I wrote to my representative, Courtney Neron, and my district to hopefully see improvement in Sherwood and across the state. Regardless, Sherwood is a passionate environment with fairly wide range of offerings. Senior: I've been a homeschool student, a charter school student and then a public school student. Canby High is my first experience in the public school system. The best part of my public school experience involves the relationships I have form with some of my teachers and coaches. They are supportive and kind, and I can tell they care about me. The worst part of the experience deals with the foul language that pollutes the learning environment. Their language shows the lack of motivation and respect of students, and it sets a bad tone. Senior: I've been to five schools since I was in kindergarten and ending as a senior at Mountain View High School. One of the things that made it so enjoyable were the great teachers I've had, especially while I was in high school always giving me the best opportunities to learn and understand the concepts. More specifically the coaching staff for soccer made my high school one of the most memorable, and of course being on the team. Of course, Covid had hit some of my social life a bit my sophomore year but made it accessible for me to understand what online learning was like, which I enjoy quite a bit. I liked Wy'East middle school better than Covington Middle school friend wise, as I felt it was more accepting and easier to get a long with more kids, including the dynamics their versus the divided groups at Covington. Sophomore: I am in the SMT magnet of my school. The teachers in the magnet are phenomenal. My science teacher last year was so extremely passionate about the subjects he taught. He rarely worked from the book, which made class much more enjoyable, and was/is an incredible speaker. You can’t take his eyes off him, it’s like he’s performing. I have a teacher right now who is my engineering teacher. He’s the coach on the Skyview Stormbots. He made me feel welcome when joining the magnet, and when being on the team. All the faculty I’ve met have been supportive and kind. The people you meet while you’re there that aren’t traditional faculty are wonderful too. There is a nurse for a student that is paralyzed from head down who I have befriended. She crocheted me a jellyfish, and we say hello regularly. Things I don’t like about Skyview because of the lockers. Alum: My experience in this school district was positive as I joined the district as a freshman in high school and was quickly welcomed. The sports provided allowed for me to meet many people before school even started! Besides from sports, I was involved in leadership which allowed for meeting many more people. Leadership lead to many opportunities whether it be meeting people in the community or even those outside the community. I got to meet many people in the district whether it be from other high schools, feeder schools, admin center people, etc. I am lucky to be in leadership and be able to meet these people. Senior: I went to Woodland high school for two years and then participated in the Running Start Program. The school has wonderful teachers and I was challenged by the curriculum. The sports games are enjoyable to watch, including soccer, basketball, and volleyball. The dance team and cheer leading groups are also very impressive. The school was newly built so the facility is wonderful! Very spacious and modern. There are several clubs to join and I in particular am part of the National Honor Society club and the Free the Children club. The one drawback that is partly why I left the high school is the immaturity levels of some students. I didn't like to be around that atmosphere so I decided to go to Clark College for my last two years. Sophomore: Even though this is my first year in this district and i'm starting it in distance learning I think its amazing. There are so many great options for classes and sports. Not to mention the teachers are very kind and understanding. They try to be as aware as possible about what kind of help you need and then try to supply you with it. I think out of all the schools I have attended it is one of my favorites, and that's saying something considering the fact that I have attended 9 different schools. Speaking of many schools, I love how inviting the Oregon City School district is. Me and my younger sister were nervous about starting somewhere new during distance learning but they did amazing making sure we were comfortable and all set for the year. I also love how accepting they are. As a member of the LGBTQ community I felt very welcomed and accepted when i started school. Alum: I was a part of the Gresham-Barlow School District from kindergarten through senior year of high school. I had a very positive experience in Deep Creek Elementary School with activites like Links to Learning and field trips being the higher points. I loved the scholastic bookfairs and the art and music classes. In middle school -- Deep Creek Damascus K through 8 -- and high school -- Sam Barlow High School -- I loved the teachers and the theatre and choir departments. My most negative experiences had to do with the lack of support in math classes and college preparation I received when I was in Sam Barlow High School.
