Senior: Grand Blanc is an excellent school with numerous opportunities in terms of academics and setting you up for future success. So many programs offered allow you to be and feel prepared for college. There are also many great diversity programs, making sure that everyone has a chance of being included in something with people with similar interests to them. I wish Grand Blanc would add or consider a program for athletes that would allow them to share thoughts or opinions about the coaching staff that will let them advocate for change if necessary.... Senior: Flushing Community Schools had a very good education program! They had MANY opportunities for students to thrive, and I made sure to take advantage to as many opportunities as possible. Currently, I am a part of Flushing High School's Early College Program, where you take college credits (minimum 48 credits and highest an associates degree) at Mott Community College. They chose this institution because many of the classes here can transfer, if not all, depending on where you're going after. There are many other opportunities it has given me to thrive, such as AP Classes. The teachers are great and willing to help with any question given to them. My concern is that they don't always uphold to their bullying policy, as I have been bullied a lot and they didn't help much, and they don't always help as quickly as you need. Senior: I’ve been going to Fenton Schools ever since I was eligible for school. I have always enjoyed the district, i’ve made some of my best friends through Fenton Schools, and if I ever have kids I will for sure be sending them to Fenton, if I’m still living here. The teachers are great, of course there are some that either me or some other students have had issues with, but that comes with any school. Junior: At Holly High School I have had a great experience. The staff is incredibly supportive and always there for you when you need it both academically and socially. The school is well maintained and clean and an overall comfortable place to be. The environment feels safe and the students are very welcoming. Their are lots of opportunities to get involved in your community and school through many different clubs and sports that are open to anyone and highly recommended. Class sizes are reasonable and resources in the school such as after school help, laptops and books are abundant. Senior: What I appreciate about Davison high-school is that there is many extracurriculars that students can join. From sports such as Track and Football to clubs such as Bible club and Anime Club. With many extracurriculars students are allowed to grow and connect with others allowing school spirit to grow. A thing I would change about Davison is having a better control on behavior issues. These issues would include drugs such as vapes. I personally wish they would be tougher on students in this area, because smelling people vaping in the bathroom everyday is sickening.... Senior: Overall, I could not have asked for a better school experience. I'm graduating at the top of my class with great experiences in theater and athletics. My school adapted to virtual learnings to work through the difficulties of the pandemic. I was able to continue to build relationships with my peers so that I have a great friendship base and was on the homecoming court by senior year. The schools lack of diversity is not the fault of the school. All people are welcome and we had a international exchange student program to which I also am still friends with some of them after they have returned to their home country. Middle School Student: What i like about Kearsley is that the teachers care. Not just your grades though, if your getting bad grades they dig deeper into your mental health and notice if your down and allow you to talk to them. The counselors are sweet and caring too and after a visit with them, they pull you out of class a couple weeks later to check up on how things are going currently. The teachers have also been very helpful with the Covid-19 and making things a little less difficult school wise. The teachers organize and plan very carefully and make sure to clean the areas after each class along with other workers (janitors) always on their feet to make a sterile environment for everyone.... Junior: Brandon school district, is honestly a decent school, I have been going here for my whole life but I do feel like there are some changes that need to be put into place. Teachers always make it feel like a safe place and most of the teachers within the school seem happy to be here. It seems like Teachers and counselors put a lot of effort into making sure students feel safe and heard. Another thing that I noticed was that there isn't many student trying to act out or student that try to cause drama and when they do students are always disciplined IN a reasonable way. A change that I noticed and think should be put into place is funding, they will always be able to find the funding for any sports but somehow there isn't any funding for things like art classes, or the robotics team.... Senior: I like that Swartz Creek Community Schools offered three different learning modalities while we are experiencing a global pandemic. Which include face to face, hybrid, and online. I choose hybrid however I didn't really actually what the hybrid learning chose really was. I feel like those who chose hybrid are kind of cheated from the proper way of learning material. Senior: The best thing about Byron is the close community. Everyone feels like family, and most people are very supportive. That being said, though, I do feel like the community as a whole needs to pitch in more to help the school. Right now, Byron doesn't have enough funding to be as technologically efficient as some of our neighboring cites do. Part of this is due to the community not pitching in to help others. Alum: Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools are literally the best schools in the Flint, Michigan area. There are extremely diverse groups of people involved in Carman-Ainsworth, that alone has molded me into a more accepting and caring person. At Carman-Ainsworth they're all about preparing their students for the future and success. As early as I can remember I was taught about college and extending my education as far as I could. Alum: The Lapeer schools helped me become who I am today. I had so many amazing teachers that were patient and helped me with anything I needed. It was not he best life growing up. I had many family problems at home, and i hated going back home. But school was an escape for me. I never felt I was good enough for anything. I never went out for sports after 8th grade and never made good connections with friends. I studied so hard and focused on my school work so that I could make it out of Lapeer. I graduated with a 4.0 and number 9 in my class! I was part of the National Honors society and I was the only girl that took woods class for three years in a row! However, when the schools were combined, the district was a disaster. Passion in the teachers and students was lacking drastically and still is. Bullying is higher than ever and students are just not making it. Teachers don't care and act like the students are not worth it. There is no structure and they have cut the arts so much.... Senior: It's a good school district full of teachers dedicated to their craft. All the teachers are so kind to the students and make sure that people are comfortable. As a non-binary student I really appreciate the lengths they go to to make sure they use the correct pronouns. With that being said, some of the students aren't the best to the LGBTQ community. Alum: My experience at Clio Schools was pretty good. I enjoyed most of my classes and teachers, there are just very few opportunities to do more than what is standard. By that, I mean there are few honors or college credit classes offered. Clio does offer two dual-enrollment opportunities, so that makes up for the lack of courses offered at the schools, but there is plenty of room for improvement. The facilities are also lacking in areas that are not of importance to the administration. For example, Clio has a notoriously terrible football team yet as of last year, there is a brand new football stadium instead of improving facilities for the Band or Robotics Programs who continue to do well at their competitions each year. Alum: The greatest advantage that Bentley Community Schools have over other neighboring school districts is the size of the district. The small district allows the student to connect with many other student and teachers. All the students know each other and form strong, life long friendships, companionships and relationships with other students, teachers, mentors, coaches, and staff. Bentley schools is also excellent at providing all student the opportunity to learn and obtain essential knowledge to pursue whatever the student feels is in their future. Senior: When I moved to Atherton from my previous school, I really enjoyed all the sports, and extracurricular activities that were offered. In my old school, we had nearly nothing extra so it was nice to have these options. I enjoyed that I nearly always felt like I had friends or people that I knew there. I went to Atherton in 5th grade, and I'm graduating this year so I got to meet a lot of people and get to know the teachers and students. There always seemed to be a level of community and together-ness that I always liked. There are a couple things that I wish could be changed. Just things that most schools seem to have issues with. Some really old books, old track, more funding for things. Like robotics, band, theater, and sports. Senior: What I like about Mt. Morris Consolidated Schools is everyone has a chance to succeed. The staff are always willing to help you go reach your fullest potential. I have always felt supported there and there is always someone you can count on whether it is a student or a staff member. I believe the school could improve on giving everyone an opportunity to explore their interests and getting the students more involved in school functions. For instance, making sure all students have access to certain classes such as ASL. I wanted to take a sign language class, but because of our low population, the class got cancelled.
