Alum: The education is really good there and everybody wants everybody to be successful. Great resources available academically. However, for athletics, the only sport that matters is football and everybody else gets thrown under the bus by parents, fans, and administration. Alum: I enjoyed my time at Bloom Vernon schools, there's not much I would change per say. I do encourage students to try new things out mostly when they get into jr high and high school. personally, I think that the school could get better sport coaches because I feel like some coaches not all only care about the players that are good or "the best" they don't want to help the others succeed, at least in my eyes. Everyone has different opinions that's just mine. Other than that I had not a problem with the school, I enjoyed being in the marching band in high school and also being a part of NHS.... Senior: Valley Local Schools of Lucasville, Ohio have given me opportunities unlike any others I have attended in the past. The staff here treats their students with kindness throughout their teachings, and the extracurricular activities available to students is exceptional. In our district alone, we have over 5+ clubs and 6 sports that students may participate. Even more so, our High School staff (specifically our Guidance Counselors) make sure upcoming graduates know of all academic and financial scholarships applicable to them, as well as help with dual enrollment in grades 8th and up.I highly respect the members of our community. I thank the Scioto County Correctional Officers across from our schools, which give students a strong feeling of security in knowing the best of the best are nearby if needed, and the fire station not a mile down the road, always at the ready. Senior: I'm a 17-year-old southern Ohioan that has attended Clay Local Schools since I was 4 years old. I've been an avid fan of baseball since I was young. I started playing the sport when I was around seven and immediately fell in love with baseball all the way from Little League in the Clay District to the Clay High School. That includes my current position as Captain and a 4-year player on the Clay High School Varsity Baseball Team, as well as a leader of the bass section in my school choir. I was selected to participate in the All County Choir in 2019. I participated in Clay High School's Science Fair and advanced to the Scioto County, District, and State Science Fair in 2017. I've also had a great interest in music since a very young age and Clay's Select Choir has been where I called home for 4 years of my high school life. Senior: Portsmouth is very welcoming school. As someone who has been to 3 different schools in the area, I’ve never felt more welcomed or like a belong than I have at Portsmouth. The only issues I’ve ever had with Portsmouth is a teacher here and there but majority of my teachers have provided a learning experience like no other. Portsmouth isn’t necessarily in the greatest part of town but with that being said, I have never felt unsafe being at school or walking around. We have a very nice athletic complex and fantastic coaches. The food isn’t the greatest but it’s free and they make sure that everyone eats at least breakfast and lunch, if you don’t have access to food at home the school is known for giving sack lunches to those in need. Senior: I have been a part of this district for the past 10 years of my life, and I am heartbroken to leave it. However, I know that these years have prepared me for my future. For one, I have had so many amazing teachers that I will forever hold in my heart. The teachers are there for you, and they genuinely care. For two, the school district is a small, close-knit community where everyone knows you. So you never have to question whether you're loved or not. Another thing about this school district is the academics, the school board assesses the students and gives them the work that suits them. By doing this it helps everyone feel involved.
