Alum: My freshmen year was pretty rough because well high school was different then middle school obviouisly, but I still thought I was mentally in middle school I didn't feel like a teenager yet. I was going through a lot my first year of high school my grades flunking and due to my grandmother passing away in October of 2019. I think that's what really affected me and my grades. Throughout the rest of my freshmen year I jus kept passing but not honors how I wanted to be. My guidance consular brought me in saying I need to start caring about my grades a lot more because of college and he was right. So, throughout the rest of my high school years so from sophomore to my senior year go me for graduating btw I started doing better and started caring more about my schooling and started getting honors. I made sure to work hard in school to not only make my parents proud but my grandmother proud because that's what she would've wanted. Now applying to scholarships and going to college, cheers me.... Freshman: I first transferred to the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District for the 5th grade, going into the middle school ready and prepared for the upcoming challenges thanks to the many great teachers in the elementary school that supported us every step of the way. The middle school was equally as great, if not better, but my experience was cut short as the district had experienced hacking in our system, and had to refrain any online-usage in the district. Soona fter, COVID-19 hit half-way through the year, until the 8th grade, where the teachers helped to revert back to normalcy. Parent: 3 of our children attend James I. O'Neill High School. All 3 got not only into their top choice college, but all of the colleges they applied to. Because the school population is low, students have numerous opportunties to partake in different sports, and activities that they may not have the opportunity to in a larger school district. Like any school, theirs good, bad, and ugly but it comes down to what you and your child are willing to put into it. Too many parents blame a child's performance on teachers when in fact, it may just be a lazy child. JIO felt more like a family where everyone knew everyone and looked out for each other.... Senior: WHS offers a community feel, school spirit, and an outstanding academic curriculum. The teachers are personable, supportive, and dedicated to all students. WHS offers competitive courses including fun college and AP level classes. Eventhough the courses can be tough, the teachers provide guidance which has allowed for me to be successful. The positive environment is always present and keeps students like me actively engaged in the classroom. Aside from academics there are many clubs and sports teams. Many students attend the sporting events to support their classmates. The events are fun and full of school spirit. My personal favorite is football and cheer season. Although there are current social distancing restrictions, I know the students and faculty will make the best of the season. I am very excited to begin my college career, but will miss my high school peers. I will have the best of memories as a proud Washingtonville Wizard. We always say, once Wizard always a Wizard.... Senior: My experience at Goshen School has been positive. Three aspects that influence an individual is social, academic and emotional. Socially, Goshen schools provide varies clubs, theatre and sport opportunities. They encourage community promoting school spirit. Academically, the teachers have a vested interest in the student encouraging them to reach their potential through investing their time. One tradition I initiated was a daily photo with our social studies class. Having the chance to have a good laugh bonded us all and showed that our teachers were interested in us. Emotionally, the school has available counselors and resources for those struggling. If I had to change one thing it would be less time on computers and more opportunities for discussion. Senior: Valley Central High School is a very academically strong school, and there are plenty of upsides to attending here. The teachers are very good at what they do and they connect with their students very easily. Students have the ability to talk to anyone for help, and they have access to many electives in different fields of work. The sports programs are not the strongest, but we do have some sports that we are stronger at, including wrestling, basketball, soccer and track and field. There are plenty of events throughout the year that students are able to attend, and they have the opportunity to join any of the many clubs offered at Valley Central. Academically we are a very strong music and math school, with programs that lead the county in engineering and computer science. Sophomore: Newburgh is very helpful in preparing you for the real world and college. They have many resources which are very helpful for the school being located in a low income community. It is very diverse which is also very nice to see people from all backgrounds whether it be financially, physically, or ethically. The guidance counselors are especially helpful when it comes to mental health, they reach out &’ check in very often, those in need of toiletries and basic necessities that they cannot get access to, there are many places they go to in the school building if they feel comfortable to ask. The North Campus has many pathways that can set you up for success later in life such as the CNA program, Criminal Justice Program &’ the P-Tech Program where you can graduate with your associates degree. Senior: I’ve been a part of the Middletown school district since I was in kindergarten. I’ve also been a part of numerous clubs and sports including volleyball, lacrosse, key club, math team and sports medicine. All of my coaches, and teachers have worked tirelessly to put their best forward and help me whenever it was needed. Middletown has wonderful programs and outstanding technology. I’ve partaken in the biomedical program and have learned a lot about the medical field. Alum: Although it is very small, Chester Academy has grown to be a very diverse school. I enjoyed how open the students and staff were. The school thrived off of sports, had many clubs, and extracurricular activities. It wasn't too difficult to find people who shared interests similar to your own. Attending Chester Academy was a pleasure! If I had to change one thing about the school it would be how students are taught. Everyone learns differently at different times and at a different pace.
