Senior: I love James Clemens High School. It is a fairly large school, with about 2,000 students in attendance, currently. Holding this many students is a challenge; the school is therefore very large. It is set up like an airport; there are four wings, or "pods," with a landing in the middle. All of the bells are airport-themed: for example, one of them says, "Your flight has departed. Please enjoy your flight." There is also a free hour between the second and third blocks where you can get your homework done, eat lunch, go to club meetings, get tutoring, or just hang out with your friends. Freshman: Bob Jones is an amazing place. The teacher and students are friendly and supportive, there are so many class options, and you learn so much! I've had an amazing experience there. I haven't been stressed and I've had so much fun! The teachers do their best to learn about you and help each student individually where they struggle and encourage them where they're strong. Every week, there is a special program where for an hour you get to choose something out of a variety of options to de-stress or catch up or just have fun! Alum: New Century is a very open and welcoming school to grow in. The teachers all wish to see you succeed, getting to know you both in a personal and academic level. There is plenty of clubs to chose from to help broaden your knowledge as well as provide you opportunities to stand out. The STEM classes are a great chance to experiment with career choices before having to pay in college. While they do offer good information, the resources specifically in the engineering and computer science strand are good a high school but not amazing. That being said, the school offers plenty of chances to meet real world figures and employers that most other high schools cannot. My time there helped me grow significantly and I believe if it wasn’t for NCTHS, I would not be as successful as I am today. Parent: Our daughter attends Columbia. Coming from military school systems and other subpar public schools, Columbia has been a breath of fresh air. Our daughter LOVES going to school every day! Her teachers are very communicative through fun apps showing us what she's doing through the day, and almost daily email updates! (Which we LOVE) My husband and I went and had lunch with her the other day and we were blown away by the way the students conducted themselves in the hall and lunch room. Middle School Student: West Madison was an amazing school. I am very sad that I had to move on to Middle School. I bet you could ask anyone that used to, or still goes to West Madison, and they would say the same thing. West Madison is a great school, and deserves to be bigger. Parent: Even in a rapidly-growing city and region, Madison Elementary excels by keeping the "small school" feel alive. Every educator is personable and approachable, the class sizes are optimal, the curriculum is fine-tuned to push the students just right, and school spirit is strong. The extremely high Niche rating for this school is well deserved and goes to show that is doesn't take a shiny new school and millions of dollars to get your children the education they need to succeed; this school building was built in 1936. Parent: As an RES parent for the last 9 years, I have seen this school blossom and grow into a place families don't want to leave. In the last 2 years, we have implemented a house system and it has changed the environment of our school. There are 6 houses and children are placed their 1st year and will remain there until they move on to Middle School. Each house has kids K-5. That means relationships are forming for years. Big kids mentor little ones and little ones love being with the big ones. School spirit is high and no doubt our House System and our admin play a huge role. Activities offered before and after school are plentiful. There are a variety of sports, art, drama, leadership and music available. Students get more recess and PE than ever. I am grateful.... Alum: Sparkman High School over all is a pretty good school. They have they’re up and downs just like any school but most of the teachers love their job and really try to get their kids to engage within the classroom. The school has a pretty good range of sports and other activities, a little bit of everything. Senior: I think the extracurricular activities around the school are amazing and run by people who really care about the students. Unfortunately, they can get impeded by the management. The management in the school is severely lacking, and there’s little to no communication between them and the students. Sometimes, not even the teachers know what’s going on with an event, and it’s often very frustrating. I don’t know if this is a problem with Jemison’s management, HCS management, or both. Senior: Columbia High School has a diverse and creative environment each and every student can feel welcome and safe in. However, considering the broad range of extracurricular activities Columbia High School offers, they could really be considered a class instead of an activity that is done after school. Also the amount of extracurricular activities that are listed on the school's website is very different from the ones actually held in school, so I think that the school shouldn't be falsely advertising something we don't have....
