Senior: Although Charter School of Wilmington is advertised and funded as a STEM school I've never had worse experiences with STEM teachers than I have at CSW. Almost every math teacher I've had has been freshly certified and unsure of his/her teaching style, my chemistry teacher laughed in my face at a personal problem and made me cry, and my physics teacher has been absent for 1/2 of my high school career due to paternity leave without sufficient substitutes and guidelines on teaching procedures. However, we still manage to succeed due to the personal drive of the CSW students who go above and beyond in these fields mainly by self-determination and outside-of-school assistance. Meanwhile, social sciences are a completely different story. Every teacher in the SS department is well qualified, well spoken, and overall wonderful teacher often overlooked by the administration due to their status on the STEM leaderboard. Parent: Best - our school with its five mile radius acceptance requirement and lottery system creates a true community feeling among students. The radius is rare and was designed to give all students within its radius, poor or acceptance, a world class education. Opportunities abound for students due to committee parents, fundraisers, and an excellent academic team. On the sad side, we have a waitlist for K-12 of almost 2000 students. Each academic year waitlisted students have to go through the lottery again and they may end up seated further behind on the list than they were the previous year. Also even though it’s a public school the Department of Education will not allow the state to fund any capital projects. We have an amazing campus built by parents and students and staff.... Junior: MOT has been a pretty great experience. The opportunities at MOT are endless. There is much to do there, so you should always be able to focus on your future. There are many scholarship opportunities offered there. The teachers at MOT are great. They are all very friendly and supportive. If you're kind and show respect to them, you'll find the courses relatively easier. However, there are also some flaws with MOT. The dress code is not the greatest recently since you can only wear tan khaki pants. The food at MOT is also not the greatest either. Sometimes you might have to skip lunch if you have a weak stomach, but for the most part, it's fine. Senior: My experiences at Delaware Military Academy have been great! Although there are some things that I feel like should be changed, you’re gonna experience that at any school. DMA not only have some of the best teachers I have personally met that not only engage in their learning but also like to get to know their students on a personal level. The administration at DMA is not like those teachers. They only do not let students have their privacy (ex: standing out side the bathrooms at lunch to see who goes in and out the bathrooms) but they also do not try to get to know the kids at a personal level. The school atmosphere is very awesome, everyone comes out to sports event and supports each other through everything. Our football games and baseball games are great with the school spirit.... Junior: My experience at Delcastle Technical High School has been amazing. I have been able to secure a job in the industry of my study as well as having lots of adult support through my teachers. I feel as if Delcastle’s academics have prepared me for a life outside of high school and prepared me for college life. There are some downs to Delcastle such as not having certain programs or extracurriculars due to funding but overall it’s a great choice of school. Alum: It was a pretty good experience to be a student at Freire. As I am a senior in college I sometimes wish I went to a public school that already been established, but being the 2nd class to graduate from that school was a good experience. Not only it was a building block of a college prep school, it was a good experience academically that i receive that many of my middle school friends didn't receive during their high school experience at public schools.
