Map Academy Charter School
Senior: I was a founding student at Map Academy in 2018, at 13 years old, and their youngest freshman. I had failed 8th grade at the local public school, because, like many of the students at MAP Academy, the public school style of teaching does not fit every student's style of learning. In addition to this, the teachers at the local public school did little to try to understand my learning need and instead belittled me and made me feel like a failure, increasing my likeliness to fail. In contrast, the focus of MAP academy is to see every student as an individual, with individual needs. They look at each student as a whole person as well, not just their academic needs; understanding that each student has emotional, family, and other needs that come with being a person and student. All of the academics are self-paced & computer-based so students work and take breaks when needed. The focus is on completing high school academics and post HS readiness, leaving little room for clubs and sports.... Read 1 review
