Alum: As an Alumni of the School the academics of the school are pretty great. The teachers generally care a lot about students, and you can really get an individualized experience. I had some excellent teachers at this school. However, there are some problems with the school which are AP selection and Extracurriculars. Smaller school size decreases the availability of some APs. This means that some APs like Calc AB, Lit, and History are always offered, while other APs like any AP Physics, and Calculus BC are unavailable. However, other STEMs like Chem and Bio are still offered. Additionally, the School does not allow AP loading, meaning that students can graduate with at most 9 APs over 4 years of High School. The other weak area of Pioneer is its lackluster club scene. During all 6 of my years at Pioneer there was no consistent structure for clubs. Alum: i loved charter, i didn’t realize it till later. the school is strict but it didnt matter because of how much fun i had that school was my family. there was never bullying. but downsides is that the school is very small and we dont have a lot if money for more resources, food is terrible... High School Sophomore: The education from Masconomet is one of the best locations for a child to receive their education from. However, the workload can be a lot, sometimes even unnecessarily excessive, especially at the end of the year. There are writing tutoring programs, and after-school help for 45 minutes Monday through Thursday. The teachers are very helpful when asked questions before or after-school. Senior: Mystic Valley is an amazing school that offers challenging academics while also providing a plethora of resources when you need extra support. The smaller classes really allows for students to meet with teachers one-on one when struggling, and Ms. Wei in the college counseling department helps us with anything from time management to major/minor decision help. The opportunities Mystic Valley offers are as expansive inside the classroom as they are out! Senior: This school is definitely unique. Each shop gives you opportunities to learn trade skills and do fun things at school! I'm in equine science and we learn a lot about taking care of horses and other animals at our barn. The facilities are amazing, it's really more of a campus than a school. The main thing that I really don't like here is that arts and music curriculum are seriously lacking. There's no opportunity to take those classes unless you choose Design and Visuals as a shop, or go to the clubs. Also, with the school adding more and more new freshmen every year, classrooms are pretty full and we're close to or over capacity I think. There are also less AP classes than other schools if that's important to you (I think we have 7 in total for options). But overall I would highly recommend checking this school out!... Niche User: Although I have only spent one year in Lawrence High School, it was one of my best experiences in my life so far! The Teachers and Staff are very helpful to students because, they push them to earn good grades. However, Lawrence High and many schools in Lawrence public school, doesn’t get as much funding compared to other schools in Massachusetts. In result, Students are not able to get more resources they need due to lack of funding. Moreover, Lawrence High is full of strong will and passionate students and staff who both work hard. Senior: When I was in the 8th grade, I was given a paper on whether I wanted to attend to GLTS. I heard rumors about how it's competitive if you are accepted or not by the school and that they had trade programs which made me interested in signing the paper. In 2019, I was happy that I got accepted and saw so many people from different schools that came to the orientation. We were shown around the school and the environment felt very welcoming. In my first year as a freshman, the school always has this event where you're introduced to sports and clubs. My friends and I chose to do Cross Country, it was a lot of fun and we got to meet new people which was exciting. GLTS always has great opportunities for its students such as programs, CO-OP, sports, receiving scholarships, dual enrollment, and so on. Senior: Personally, I have enjoyed the four years I have been here. Sure there are some things I do not like about it, but that could be anywhere. I like how one week is academic and the next week is shop since this is a vocational school. It gives my brain a break and it is good for my mental health. I like my friends that I have met since I came here. Transferring to a new school is tough, but being here felt like home.
