Senior: The academics are exceptional, and for the most part the teachers are super great and helpful! Social life can be a little bit difficult because it is a small school, but I definitely found my group of people. One thing I would like to see change is the way the administration deals with bullying, harassment, and false allegations. Senior: All the teacher truly care to see success in all students. They are there to help and guild you. Everyone is there to look out for you. I find the counselors amazing as you can always go and talk to them about anything and they are there to help you no matter what. There is also a program known as SafeToTell that many students use and are able to report things they have seen, herd, or gone through and the staff then handles the situation keeping the informers identity hidden. Sports are an amazing way to get to know fellow classmates as well as release stress. Our school is pretty good with supporting our sport teams, it is a way to bond and cheer on fellow students while also representing our school. I hope to see a change in the meals. Due to understaffing meals where not as impressive as before, but hopefully that problem will be resolved next year. Senior: The teachers at Dsst: Byers High School become close friends/family. I love that my teachers cared for each and one of my classmates, and took the time to know us personally. This type of relationship is great, since it makes it easier to ask for help and better advocate for yourself. To add on, there are many options for classes to take in order for each student to be challenged at a reasonable level. There are many activities and extracurriculars to join, and even opportunities to start your own club! Here at Byers inclusivity and respect are highly encouraged, there are many affinity/cultural clubs open to the whole student body. Senior: There are opportunities for everyone at RV. The culture is accepting and encouraging of all students. There is a large support for students from the admins and counslers. Sports at RV are amazing! The football team is a contender in the playoffs every year, solid basketball team and soccer, great track/cross country team, you name it. Performing arts is a tight knit group always allowing students to come in and out as their schedule permits. However, the school isn’t perfect, the food is subpar; all upperclassman drive off campus to get food during lunch and if underclassman are lucky they do as well. Depending on the teacher you get, you may have a very difficult time working with them or even reaching them. The school is crowded but that is to be expected with such a large population and the teachers do a good job of making time for every student. Senior: Legacy is a good school academically, but it's lacking in the math department. There are only 1 or 2 actually good math teachers, but the rest assign busywork that doesn't teach you anything or they throw you difficult problems without teaching you how to do it and then get mad when nobody knows how. I liked the music/art programs and the English department, however, there is favoritism towards the sports teams even though the band is wildly more successful than them. Senior: Very good school with rigurous and challenging courses. Supportive and attentive staff members as well as good school mates. Lots of club and sports opportunities and easy access to resources. I haven't had any issues with the school, and I have been going to Conservatory Green since middle school. Built really good relationships with other students and was given lots of good opportunities, especially when it comes to college. They are very big on college readiness and start preparing you for it as early as 6th grade. They have lots of different programs and field trips that give you the opportunity to connect with different colleges and to just get a feel for the college life. There is a lot of diversity, and all cultures are celebrated as well as respected. The students usually get along very well. Senior: I appreciate all the teachers at the school, and the connections I have with them. The library is a great place to get all my homework done, and it keeps me focused. I think the teachers makes a difference in my experience because they've helped me grow throughout the years, and having talks about academics makes me motivated. However, I think the school could do more to solve issue of the bathroom hogging, and people hovering over the sink and won't let people wash their hands and get to class. Also I think teachers can do more about people going to the bathroom at a specific time, because some students take the pass and leave for a while and make the others wait until they come back. Same with blocking the halls during passing periods. Overall, I really love the school because of the teachers, and the building, but the school can do better to handle people who bother others.... Sophomore: Collegiate Academy is a very small school focused on academics. It is a tight community, so you will make very close relationships with your classmates and teachers. The school puts its students first and puts effort in order to help you keep up with your work. Costs are much more manageable compared to other schools. Since it is a small school, more special events happen such as near monthly field trips. Parent: I have been a teacher at this school for 19 years and my daughter has been a student for 11 years (since PreK). We both love our school. It's not perfect. If you are looking for a perfect school, it doesn't exist. But I can tell you from an insider's perspective, everyone who works in our buildings gives their all and wants each student to not only achieve academically, but to be a well rounded, happy individual. I love being part of a charter school because the status quo never has to stay. Often parents and staff spearhead positive change. We don't have near as many hoops to jump through. We have an incredible amount of parent support and volunteering. The kids at our school are truly great kids. There is no perfect school and there are plenty of kids here making poor choices, just like everywhere.
