#2 Best Public High Schools in Virginia
Sophomore: For academics and activities (clubs, sports) this is a great school! It's easy to tell how dedicated each staff member and student is to their work. That being said, it's a very high stress environment (especially during freshman year) because of the workload and often because of staff that downplays the struggles that students go through. Be prepared for MANY difficult teachers and annoying students. As a rising junior, I feel that the school could do much better with handling mental health and setting up bias training for teachers and students. For those looking to apply, I would still say that the good outweighs the bad. As long as you develop good time management (quickly) and are ready to continuously challenge yourself with the workload, you'll be fine. Your experience at Maggie Walker is mostly yours to create, but if you aren't white (esp if you're Black, like me) be prepared for some ignorance from students and staff alike.
