Senior: As a Senior in Oakton High School currently, I have faced the curriculum and teaching while being in-person and virtual. Overall, the teachers have done an amazing job to be inclusive and teach material well. The staff is very considerate of all students as long as there is clear communication between the student, their family, and the school. As for the opportunities, there is a good mix of athletics, academics and clubs. It is extremely easy to start something and all students are very involved in some sort of activity throughout each high school year. The only thing I would tweak for this school would be it's course offerings. When compared with Chantilly High School, they can be more offerings so that students in FCPS can compete better with their neighboring schools when coming to course load (APs, IBs, academies, etc).... Sophomore: Last year, I started freshman year at James Madison High School, and the experience so far has been absolutely unbelievable! The school offers a variety of clubs to bring the student community together, and I have recently joined Key Club and Junior Civitan in order to give back to my community. Moreover, my experience with club members and others in the student body has been remarkable! The student community that Madison has built is diverse, success driven, and unified. The school also includes a pleather of sports teams, where students can focus on team building, health, and competitive drive. I am currently a member of the Tennis Team, and though my time on the team so far has been cut short due to the pandemic, I have created several new friends and improved my athletic ability. Lastly, I have not had a single bad experience in my learning, and all of my teachers have inspired me to strive for success and push myself in order to become an even better learner.... Middle School Student: Being a student at Mosby Woods is a privilege. You get great advanced academic programs and Preschool. My teachers taught me so much. The teachers are always really into what they're teaching and that's a great trait. I've made so many friends and they always know how to welcome new students. They have great activities and projects. Like the 20 years project or the Spring Fling/ Fall Ball. I'm sad I'll have to leave it. I had a great experience there. Time for middle school... Senior: Being a student throughout Fairfax in all 4 years, I've really enjoyed my school life here. Though, when it came to the teachers, there was mixed feelings about each individual one. I've had teachers who neglected the way they teach resulting in grades going down in their class as a whole and others who would go above and beyond for their students. But, the pros outweigh the cons. Everyone in the school is so welcoming and lively; I never felt out of place. There's so many options for sports, extra curriculars, anything! Alum: To be honest, Fairfax County is one of the best counties academically speaking. It contains some of the best public schools in the country, and is filled with highly sophisticated people. Thoreau is heavily influenced by these factors, although its academic performance is lower than other schools of the same county. The staff are friendly, and the rules are more lenient. It is filled with fun clubs, including student created one. Its music departments are some of the best, and bullying is minimal. However, since it is a middle school, their are no sports teams.... Senior: Louise Archer elementary is in my opinion the best elementary school in Fairfax County. There are numerous amazing activities that students can participate in such as: Camp Highroads and Civil War Day that make learning fun. Middle School Student: Great School! I am in 8th grade at Lanier Middle School! I have enjoyed my time there and love everything about it! I'm sad to be going to high school next year and wish I could just stay there instead. The food is great and so are the teachers. There are a lot of elective choices for everyone...its better than our rival Rocky Run..WHICH IS TRASH CUZ U NEED TO GO TO CLASSES IN TRAILERS..but at Lanier we got a GIANT school!... Parent: We have had a positive experience with Marshall Road Elementary School. There are many newer teachers but we have found they are some of the best teachers. The teachers are responsive and we have had good experiences with the amount of homework assigned and responsiveness of teachers to questions and communication. The school has a STEAM and technology special that is well-run. The PTA sponsors an annual musical for 5th and 6th graders that is very popular and provides new experiences for the students.... Senior: The experience I gain from Mountain View Alternative was helped me for now. The first thing I learned was, respecting another culture. and how I have to give respect for my parents, they even using those phases for the school symbol,'' family love, and respect .'' I loved being one of the students from Mountain View High school students because they taught me accurately, and they educated me on how I wanted it. Sophomore: I was in Mount Vernon High school and it was a pretty old school, but it had more to it than the looks. When I had entered my sophomore year did I realize how precious of an opportunity I was given when entering this school. It had AP, IB, and dual enrollment classes. All in one school, crazy right! The staff their for help in general or college was always there for you to go to and to talk. I found that talking to my counselor helped me a lot through their advice's. But like everything when there is good, there is always something bad. One of the things that I didn't like there was the school culture and food. I mean food is food and I should be grateful, but it was just so bad that I just couldn't eat it except for the salad. The school culture wasn't the best either, when there was a meeting for like a concert or end of the quarter meet up there would barely be any anybody of each grade. It kind of set the moral of the school down. Altogether it's still worth it coming to MV HS.... Read 1 review
