Alum: Great School! A lot of resources available to students to guarantee success, but it all depends on the student's intent. Advising could definitely be better in terms of a more thorough pipeline after graduating instead of just classes. The school facilities are unmatched thought. It is incredible how big the campus is and how many resources the school has. Many schools in the state can only dream of such facilities as 2 pools, the sports fields, and the state of the art technology. My experience at GBS had some issues because at times the school ran itself in a very totalitarian way. The school administrators rarely advocated for the growth among students belonging to lower class families. This also translated to inability to motivate social mobility, by having more disadvantaged students not be tempted to take advanced placement courses. Sophomore: In general, Glenbrook North High school offers one of the best education program and curriculum in Illinois! Our school provides many educational opportunities and challenges for each and every student currently attending this specific high school! In other words, GBN provides high-level sport activities, clubs, as well as projects! As a current sophomore, I've been able to obtain leadership and social skills as a community member of GBN! As a regular participant of Key Club and Medical Club, I've been able to achieve long-term goals I've set for my overall high school experience through interacting with other students and assisting their needs. Senior: Overall my experience at New Trier High School has been a positive one. Majority of teachers recognize the individual student and treat students accordingly. Most of my teachers have shown me compassion that has fueled my academic success. My experience in athletics and academic clubs has provided me with invaluable skills, preparing me for a successful career. Athletics and academic clubs provide unique opportunities for all students, regardless of past experience, leading to confident students willing to take athletic and academic risks. Despite the large student population, accessibility of various communities provides students with intimate relationships and meaningful connections. Unfortunately, this same praise cannot be applied towards the diversity of New Trier’s student population. Middle School Student: I love this school! The teachers are AMAZING, and you feel like you really bond with them. Maple is focused on academics, and all the kids preform really well there. High School Junior: The teachers were superb and had the resources to create a great experience. The Gifted/Enrichment program was unbelievably wonderful with passionate teachers who had the highest level degrees and published authors on the subject. Middle School Student: The teachers are great. They push you to do your best, and have very reasonable boundaries that have repercussions if you make them cross that line. The students are very diverse, and the students work really well together, no matter who it is. The teachers prepare you a lot for high school, even exceeding the expeditions for what the students need to know in order to get a passing grade. Especially the science they teach. They prepare you for everything that comes your way at high school, New Trier especially. Except they pile on homework and projects pretty excessively. Although it has been pretty manageable so far, it’s definitely going to get more difficult as the year goes on. Overall, a very good school that i wouldn’t want to transfer out of. Alum: I went here from 2015 to 2019 - Northtown is one of the better charter schools in the Chicagoland area I believe. All the staff is respectful, classes ensure that you will learn a concept or idea to the fullest extent, and you will most definitely feel welcome. I made many friends along the way, and of those friends, many of them were teachers! Every teacher obviously has their own methodology when it comes to assigning work, but from my 4 years here, the teachers are fair and respectful as long as you give them back that same attitude. Generally, the grading scale is rather fair. 20% of your grade is made up of formative assignments such as homework. Parent: I can't say enough good things about this school. The sense of community is huge. The teachers and staff know all the kids and the families and kids have a nice community. I would definitely recommend taking a tour of this school, because it will be obvious as soon as you enter the building. My kids have thrived here, even during the pandemic.
