Junior: Let me tell you, this high school is #1 in Florida and #4 in the nation for an excellent reason. This unique program 2-year program has been amazing. I have never been happier to switch to such a fantastic school. If you're lucky enough to be the few allowed into the school after applying, then you'll be able to experience a schedule that is unlike any other high school I have ever seen. You have 3 hours every single day to yourself (and college classes as this is a dual enrollment program) and to complete any work. The teachers and fellow students are just absolutely amazing! The environment is stunning as we are housed within a college campus; it's very open with lots of green! Not to mention this program allows you to start college 2 years early.. completely free! You don't exactly have a choice, however. I won't lie. The school is tough. You lose lots of free time. But it's so worth it! Just know how to balance your social and work life and you'll be fine!... Junior: Being a student in such a small school has this huge advantage: Each student has a plethora of opportunities to meet with teachers and ask for some extra help! In the beginning, it seemed like such a unbearable challenge with the rigorous course loads and the many morning quizzes, but later in the year, that sense of preparedness and accomplishment made it all worthwhile. Alum: My experience was mostly good. I got the great opportunity of being able to go to college at the same time as I was finishing up high school, which helped a lot in terms of money since the college classes were paid for by the school. The teachers were mostly helpful, the classes were good. It was just a lot of brain usage as you have multiple high school AP classes as well as various college classes in between. Now that I am done I do feel accomplished but I can definitely say that it was hard to balance everything out, especially with a slight language barrier, I felt that I had to work harder.... Alum: After graduating from this school, I could say I had the best four years in this school even thought 2 of them were cut short from Covid-19. I loved the active school spirit involvement which included seasonal pep rallies and cultural activities such as the Black History Month Drama Show and having themed dress-up weeks. Almost all teachers and staff care and challenge students to prepare you for college. One thing that could be changed though is the cleanliness of the bathrooms. Freshman: I have only been here for a few weeks to be honest so I will talk from what I have experienced so far. However, this school is very clean, everyone seems very friendly, and the views from the windows are breathtaking. The Duel Enrollment system in this school is great, since you can literally go to the college next door for your class. Education here is a bit struggling sometimes, as if you don't keep up the minimum 3.5 GPA you get kicked out. However, most teachers seem understanding. Also, the school only has 6 periods and as a freshman, I didn't get to choose my specials which was quite upsetting. Now, I just take it in a positive note since those classes I received aren't that bad. Everything is very expensive and the dress code is quite strict. Not your normal high school experience, however it teaches you life is unfair. Parent: How does this school get a B in diversity?! This is not objectively possible-it is a highly diverse school. Teachers are amazing-they all clearly want to be there and are enthusiastic about what they teach. They are happy at MAST. Their enthusiasm spills over to the students who then want to learn. At SAS, students complete an Associate’s Degree in Arts while simultaneously completing high school requirements. With SAS I have improved my understanding of my career and have advanced 2 years of college. The environment at SAS is very friendly and professional, I have received all the assistance required to go to college and maintain a good GPA. Senior: I was in the visual communications strand. My passion for graphic design developed exponentially through my time there, though my explorations were pretty self-directed. The teacher is leaving this year so it'll probably be different next year. I know that the architecture teacher is great. The workload is quite intense, and if you expect to have flawless grades, you'll have to work significantly harder than in some other schools, as you have to produce quality art for a decent grade regularly. Senior: Academically, Doral Academy is one of the top schools in Miami-Dade. Our AP teachers are very passionate, and often receive passing rates well above the national average. However, there is a large number of students who are not taking AP classes that struggle with honors and standard level courses. Those classes either receive less experienced teachers, or teachers who put in less effort. This makes it very difficult for students to improve and reach a higher level of understanding. There is almost a divide amongst the student body, where the "average kid" is looked down upon by both students and staff. This is mostly due to the selective process involved with enrolling at Doral, where the admissions office chooses as many "outstanding" students as they can, but still attempt intellectual diversity. Junior: Within this school there have been an abundance of teachers who have a genuine passion for what they teach and you see it reflected in their tone when tackling certain topics in their classes and how they interact with students. Though this may be so, the amount of work given to children even before college is a thought to them is unheard of in other schools and thus had led to horrendous mental health across the student body. Yes, we are all very much so prepared for the world ahead, but this was all done at the sacrifice of ourselves. Our priorities get rearranged for this school to have what it wants because we know 'it is good for us.' Senior: The best parts I have experienced are the amount of resources available to us for our passions and interests such as clubs and sports. Its counselors will work with you to achieve academic achievement or goals, and give you advice and resources for you to see fair you are capable of doing. Administrators attempt to keep students safe in their academic environment although I will admit they don’t take into account the physiological effects and factors involved in the student life. Freshman: I’ve had an amazing experience at True North Classical Academy. The school curriculum challenges the student to dissect a topic whichever subject is, analyzing it and expressing our opinions to develop the skill of critical thinking, providing us the tools needed to succeed. I believe that the years I’ve been in the school have not only increased my extensive vocabulary but provided me with empowerment to expand knowledge and succeed in my education.
