Senior: Some of my best experiences at Hawaii Technology Academy is meeting my 2 closest friends. I got to meet a lot of new people and teachers as well. The teachers at Hawaii Technology Academy are very welcoming and helpful. I like how my school is a blended learning school where you have the choice to do fully virtual classes or come to school in person. Some of the worst parts is when I needed help with my college search I emailed one of our former counselor at the time and she never got back to me. Senior: I enjoyed the environment at Kihei Charter and appreciated the doors that it opened for me. During my sophomore year, I had the privilege of enrolling in my first college course, which was a stepping stone for my academic growth. I was truly fortunate to benefit from the school-funding which covered half the course tuition. I firmly believe that other high school should take advantage of this fantastic opportunity. Throughout my academic years, I wished for a more structured and organized school experience. Despite the best efforts of my educators, I often found a lack of direction and guidance. The scheduling of classes posed a consistent issue at the beginning of each year, and it wasn't uncommon for issues to persist until the second quarter. I strongly believe that a more comprehensive and thoughtful approach to planning and organization could have greatly enhanced the schools productivity and overall quality. Sophomore: WHEA is a great school for a child that likes to really work for what they are interested and passionate about. At WHEA you build your own projects and the teachers help you achieve them. You do data, research, hands on things. You share your passions and share what YOU want to learn and a teacher or teachers will help you achieve your goal. The math classes are divided into smaller so that teachers are able to work with the students 10:1 ratio. There is also biology, health, history and a foreign language that each student takes. When a student reaches junior or/senior year if a student decides to do a running start course the teachers that have the knowledge and information about how are more then helpful to making sure the student successful goes through the program. I would really recommend this school to hands on students that are comfortable and able to manage their own time because here at WHEA we plan our own schedules, this helps us understand how to manage our time in college... Parent: Our son is a 6th grader at SEEQS, and he loves it (we all do)! The school's emphasis on and dedication to sustainability couldn't be more important right now. We also love how they value each student as an individual, and how they encourage them to take responsibility for their experience. Among the things we love: the valuable field trips, the community-minded approach, the enthusiasm of the teachers, and the emphasis on learning to present to an audience. Highly recommend!... Alum: Going to this school really set the foundation for my education and it was definitely a great experience. The teachers are very kind and make sure to challenge those who are more advanced. I would say the standard of education wasn’t as high, but above average compared to other public schools in Hawaii. Senior: My experience at Kanu O Ka 'Aina for the past 3 years was a wonderful time. The teachers are very helpful and engaged in student work, making sure we obtain what we learn. The work gets challenging every now and then, but overall, interesting as most of it helps us prepare for college. Kanu O Ka 'Aina is very focused on Hawaiian based learning, incorporating it into our learning as much as possible. They teach us where we come from, our connections to who and what made us who we are, as well as finding ourselves and embracing the culture. I would like to see more big events happen at Kanu, such as concerts, as well as others from around the world to come and share their mana'o, as well as teach us their culture and background.... Alum: New to the island in 2017 I was faced with bullying at a neighboring school for nearly two years. Any middle schooler in a new environment would of course be intimidated, but this intimidation festered and only got worse. That’s why the acceptance call for Hawaii Academy of Arts and Science had me in tears in the middle of a local grocery store, it was life changing..I was optimistic and knew that I had a whole new opportunity to make new friendships and be in an environment where I was cared for. My first day at HAAS I was in awe at the beautiful campus equipped with a garden, an aquaponics farm and even a cow (who is no longer there). This was different than any school I had ever been enrolled at. The small and close knit campus let the students and staff all be familiar with each other therefore building a stronger environment, for a small community the opportunities were endless! Alum: My experience at Ānuenue was interesting, our Hawaiian culture was the priority, it was our roots because it is from our ancestors and history. There was a lot of activities we did for our Hawaiian culture which I enjoyed. I do wish the education part would be a little bit stronger for students to understand it more. Since the school is a bit short handed on teachers, it is difficult to learn everything from one teacher about so many different subjects. On the other hand, I am very proud and grateful for my teachers for teaching us everything they can and know. I loved every part of learning more about my culture and to see what i can do with it in the future with my career. The Hawaiian language is one of the most important thing in our culture because it tells our history and our tradition. Junior: I've been in Ke Kula ʻO Nāwahīokalaniʻōpuʻu since kindergarten and have also attended the preschool connected to this school and by far it has molded me into the person I am today. It's made me strong and thankful for the things I have such as our Hawaiian Language. At a point in time it was almost extinct but thanks to this school it's been revived and I am a part of this program. I feel proud being able to revive an important part of my culture and here at this school there is nothing but respect we have for one another and I wouldn't want it any other way. Senior: I have attended Ke Ana La'ahana since 7th grade. At first I was quiet and wasn't as open as I am now. I didn't come out of my shell until about 9th grade. I realized I could make friends and this school had a friendly environment. This school has electives and learning opportunities that are not found in other public schools.
