Alum: Overall, this is a great school for academics. You have to be willing to give up a lot of extracurricular-type activities if you want to go here. Small class sizes make it easy to form connections with teachers. They also mean you know everyone in your grade - both a good and bad thing. You'll spend half of your school career at Chemeketa, which is an average college. The campus isn't anything to write home about, and I've had some classes that were complete jokes, but at the end of the day it was a good education. Teachers can be a little overbearing about the AVID-type stuff. I suppose the kids are so well-behaved they need something to get onto them about. Not many students get into prestigious universities, so don't go here if you want it to get you into an Ivy or something. Good for state and local university prep. You'll spend most of your time with the same 5 people in your friend group, so a good school for introverts. First 2 years are intense, second 2 are better.... Read 54 reviews

Senior: Amazing school! I used to feel disconnected from school and the educational experience before seeking alternative education and eventually finding ORVA. You can guide yourself through how you learn and pick a plan that works for you. The only two things that could improve are a wider range of ORVA classes (like AP or more honors) and more hands-on and collaborative schoolwork.... Read 23 reviews

Senior: I’ve been attending McNary High School for all my high school years and I wouldn’t change it for anything. I’ve met some amazing teachers that are always willing to help and provide extra help. For example, our college career center is always open and giving us resources for our next steps in college. I’ve also played soccer for my school too and it was such a fun experience. We were more than just a team , we were a family that would get together after practices and games to bond. Weekly team dinners, secret sister gifting, and just get together. During my online learning I was very successful due to the teachers once again always available. This year they just incorporated an extra period in class for a school club. It helps with our 1-1-1 tule of trying to be world class.... Read 356 reviews

Sophomore: Overall, I had a great experience at Stephens Middle School. Stephens is an AVID school, therefore, students had to have a 3-inch binder with all of their materials needed for all of their classes to stay organized even if they weren't enrolled in the AVID class. Every once in a while, we had teachers from other schools come to watch our classes. Our diversity was unbelievable! We had students from almost every race. We had an awesome islander club! I remember whenever we had an assembly, they would share a little piece of their culture with everyone by dancing in their stunning Hawaiian skirts. The teachers we really nice, they cared about every student's well being.... Read 9 reviews

Senior: My school is a small alternative school located in downtown Salem. I came to Roberts because I have social anxiety and large schools just weren't helping me, so when I came to Roberts, I knew that I didn't want to go anywhere else. This school has helped me earn most of my credits and the teachers are there not just for a paycheck, but their there for you and only want to watch you succeed. If I could change one thing about my school, I would change their reputation. Roberts is seen as place to send the delinquents when they misbehave, but it is actually a place where you can learn what you need in order to better yourself and become a functioning adult.... Parent: If you want your children to arrive at school eager to learn, and leave happy and energized for the next day, Seven Peaks is your school. Our family absolutely loves it. The culture of academic excellence combined with an International Baccalaureate Curriculum means that students not only dive deep into subject matter, but they also see the same topics intertwined across various subjects—math, art, spanish, design, etc. I see IB as the popular storyline teaching method on steroids! Plus since class sizes are capped 18 students, my children receive personalized instruction from their teachers—their unique needs and interests are met, they get extra help when needed or the freedom to go beyond in areas where they excel. The result: my children are thriving, they love school, and as a mom, I feel involved and connected. I just can’t say enough positive things about Seven Peaks School!... Read 18 reviews

Parent: We have 2 boys currently attending WES. One is in his 3rd year there and a 2nd grader and the younger is 2 months into his first year (kindergarten). Both love their school and the teachers; they can't wait to go to school every single day. I'm always surprised at how fast they learned to read and they're now writing stories at home...for fun! The school's focus on being kind, confident, and prepared is definitely the right direction and this mentality shows in each of their students. The parents with whom we interact are also very nice and some have become good friends. The administration staff is exceptional. It shows every day in every teacher and staff member. The head of school is out there every morning welcoming kids to school, helping with drop off, and greeting everyone by name.... Read 17 reviews
