Junior: I like my school because I'm able to see my friends at lunch since there are no lunch blocks separating the time. I wish the option to leave campus was available for grades other than 12th graders. I know the school was built in the 70's, which is why I think it's time for the school to get a little refresh! I think the school should be repainted, because the student paintings on the wall just make things look so tacky. The school could use a modern repaint and reconstruction, as well as expansion since the traffic to get to classes is a lot. A better cafeteria would be nice, since the one we have is very small and definitely couldn't hold more than one tenth of the school. The cafeteria could definitely use a new AC unit as well. Works Here: The teachers, staff and administration are amazing and create a "family-like" culture. Students are respectful and work hard. There is one-to-one technology for all students and a high level of STEM activities. Hydroponics, Aquaponics, Aeroponics, greenhouse and raised beds are embedded into the Ag-Sci curriculum for all grade levels. Garden to table program is part of the healthy lunch program and all students have access to a fresh salad bar daily. Parent: We have two kids at Tomoka, and we love it. Our teachers have all been great, and the administrators are very available and responsive. There are many opportunities for parents to engage, sometimes in the classroom (depending on the teacher) and always at the school level with the PTA. Alum: I'm now a high school student and I enjoyed my time at Ivy Hawn. The teachers (most of them) were fantastic, unfortunately most of those who taught me have left. I have a sibling who is currently in their middle school side and she doesn't like it all that much. She's been having trouble with a specific teacher and she's the most respectful, quiet, and enthusiastic student but this teacher has stressed her out beyond belief. Alum: Buc Pride Never Dies! Hands down the best high school experience you could ask for, plus Mainland made me the open-minded, and worldly individual that I am today. I was apart of the Academy of Engineering, Design, and Manufacturing Technologies program at the school which is a STEM oriented program that prepared me for my college career. There are other academies for other areas of interest that include business, health sciences, IT, and video production to name a few. Aside from the academic preparation, teachers, faculty, and even the sports coaches all went above and beyond to make sure the students feel that they are apart of a big family. The Buccaneer family will always be held close and dear to my heart because it was more than just "going to school": it was waking up at 6:30 every morning to go to my 2nd home.
