Senior: I want to start off by saying that Charlotte Engineering Early College, also known as CEEC, has given me an amazing opportunity that I will forever cherish. The teachers and faculty are all so invested in the students. CEEC has allowed many students, such as myself, to earn various kinds of college credits through UNC Charlotte. That being said, I would love for the CEEC teachers to have a more thorough conversation about potential pathways. One such example would be informing students that many engineering classes will not be offered until they actually enroll in UNC Charlotte. Being more realistic with students would help them immensely in the long run. Even though CEEC could better prepare students, the opportunity handed to them is such a blessing. Alum: It provides first generation and low income students to earn their associate degree for free while simultaneously taking high school courses. It also creates a smoother transition for students after graduation by being located on a college campus. The curriculum and structure of the high school courses were fast paced but also easy to follow along with. Teachers and staff were always willing to answer questions or explain concepts multiple times for students who were confused. Alum: I spent eight years at LNC and made great friends and even greater memories. The sporting events are always fun to attend, especially with the Knightmare student section. The majority of teachers are amazing and you have many opportunities to take AP and Dual Enrollment courses. They also have a great lunch program where you can order from places like Chik-Fil-A and Panda Express. Senior: Community School of Davidson has the best teachers I have ever had, they truly care about you and they go out of their way to help you. For example I had emailed a teacher at 10:30 pm, and I didn't want or expect them to get back to me that night but sure enough at 11 pm they did. The learning style here is something I have never experienced, in that they don't have test ever week and in a history class I had we look at a war that happened and got articles from both countries that were involved to see how they both blamed each other. But the other students are nice, but most of the students have been there since preschool so they take our school for granted. Also the students there are 85% well off, which isn't a bad thing but there just isn't a diversity of wealth or race. Overall CSD is a good school and they try their best!... Read 77 reviews

Senior: I have attended Pine Lake Preparatory ever since I was in 3rd grade ad the experience was nothing but incredible. The staff has always treated everyone with respect and kindness. The school itself is also beautiful, offers incredible courses, and is overall well-designed. If I had to pick a bad experience I would say some of the school field trips were not always fully organized but at the end of the day, we all made the best of it! Sophomore: Hough High School has a very distinguishable school personality. You can really tell the students and staff are close-knit and love the school. Administration, counselors, and teachers always make sure students know they are there for them and will help them succeed. Hough is known in the CMS District for their high test scores, wide array of AP and honors courses, and the amazing sports teams. There are many student-run clubs and organizations to join. In addition, there are lots of chances to put yourself out there if you try. For example, running for a leadership position in a club, volunteering around campus, or being a school ambassador! However, downsides are the lack of diversity and poor distribution of funds. Ethnic minorities only make up about 25% of the student body, and most funds are poured into sports, which is why the performing arts department often struggle, although they are absolutely fantastic as well.... Alum: Very good school. Very diverse, I have no idea why the diversity score is so low. My class had about half white kids and the other half were of some other ethnicity which is a complete different experience from any other school. Senior: At Crossroads Arts and Science Early College, students are able to receive a free associate’s degree while in high school. After high school, students will have 2 years of transferable college credit to use at any North Carolina public university. Being able to simultaneously receive a high school diploma and associate’s degree is the main thing I love about Crossroads. It has saved me a lot of time and money. The teachers are amazing and very supportive. Students are able to play sports for the local high school, Statesville High. We can even join clubs, such as yearbook, FBLA, beta club, student council, chess club, or science club. As a senior, I am very thankful for the support the staff and students have given me. Parent: I've had three kids attend Irwin. We love this school. There are great opportunities for the children and the classrooms are amazing. Even though it is an older building, there are many upgrades including a renovated (in the 90's - but the building itself is much, much older) interior and filtered water bottle filling stations. We've had much success with the teachers and admin at this school. I can't imagine sending my kids elsewhere. Senior: My journey at LNHS started out at the same time as the Covid 19 pandemic. My entire freshman year was virtual. Great way to start off my high school career (not)! Despite the obvious challenges [of a certain virtus], I feel my sophomore year actually presented more. The transition from virtual school to in-person school was not easy. But thanks to my teachers, counselors, friends, and parents by June 2022 I was okay. This brings me to the best part of LNHS. The relationships I've been able to form with my teachers are everything and more. The support I've received has guided me through my high school career. My teachers have done more than just "teach" me. They've mentored me and shaped me into the person I am today. A strong responsible young adult who is hopeful to take on the world. Parent: Our academically able child often struggles to make good choices. The staff at Piedmont sees this as the developmental hurdle it is, and fully support AND challenge her to use her energies for the greater good, rather than the personal, and maybe entitled, satisfaction many teens seek. She is held accountable for her work, AND nurtured. Teachers learned her style and passed their knowledge of her needs, desires, and challenges on to the next year’s team.
