Senior: Overall, Lafayette is a really great school. It puts a huge focus on academics as well as athletics. Our students are welcoming, smart, and charismatic in many ways. Lafayette also has a wonderful staff with caring teachers! The only thing Lafayette could put more of a focus on is mental health. While the school cares for its students in regards to academics and athletics, it doesn't put enough focus on mental health as it should. This needs to change. Junior: I’m a junior at Parkway West High School in Ballwin, MO, and so far, it has been a great experience. The teachers at the school certainly push students to do their best. Not only that, but most of them try to help as much as they can within the course. While there are always going to be a few mishaps at each school, Parkway West does a great job at helping their students grow from every experience throughout their high school career. Even through a pandemic, the school has not stopped their pursuit of encouraging students to find their path in life. Whether it’s for high school or college, they want you to excel. The only issue I have had is not receiving enough info about college prep. However, I have used my own resources to figure this out. The school has great lunch services, fun elective courses, and a wonderful staff. Extracurriculars are great too; our sports teams are very competitive and clubs are always intriguing. Senior: It's a nice school! Faculty is passionate about what they do, the school is clean (exempting the female restrooms), and there is a wide variety of classes. It's easy to enroll into AP and honors classes, and there is a lot of preparation for college. The food is less than ideal. Although it's a given that a public high school has poor food, this school takes it to another level- I can count on more than both hands how many times my food has been under cooked/raw. I've known students who have gotten sick from eating here. There's also a lack of options. You're better off bringing your own food! There's also the issue of reoccurring racist incidents. They have been happening every year for the past few years, and got recognition in 2021 when someone wrote racist messages on a wall in the boy's restroom. This incident was even put into the news. Middle School Student: I am currently an 8th grade student at Crestview Middle School. Overall, the school is amazing! The teachers are amazing. I used to have a very hard time with writing. After the school put me in their writing resource class, the teachers told me my writing skill grew super fast in 1 year. I would not recommend riding a bus though. Parent: Parkway West Middle is an excellent school. Both my children attend there and love it. Teachers at West Middle have high expectations for learning and care about kids. Alum: Rockwood Valley Middle School (RVMS) is located in Ballwin, Missouri and part of the Rockwood School District. It hosts grades 6-8 As a former student, I can truly say this is a fantastic school that thoroughly prepares kids for their next step in their high school education. The teachers at the school are spectacular and they don't disappoint. Each teacher works with all students to ensure they succeed to the highest level possible. As far as the breakdown of grade levels, each grade level is separated by two teams: Red and Black. Students spend most of their core classes (Math, Science, English, and History) with people on the same team. With elective classes, students spend time with a mixture of kids in their grade. In addition, Rockwood Valley also has plenty of after school activities including but not limited to: sports, theater, robotics, after school help, and much more. Niche User: When I looked at private school elementary options in the area, I was told to not waste my money. More than one person told me that "Mason Ridge is the Parkway 'Private School'." Highly involved parents jump in to support the faculty and lead many of the extracurricular events to help make them happen. A great example of this is the "4rth grade fishing day" tradition. Sophomore: Parkway North High School is very diverse; Lots of different races, ideologies, religions, and interests! This makes the school quite interesting to go to! They have lots of amazing programs for Minorities and academically inclined students. They also have a wide array of sports and extracurricular activities. Parent: Parkway NEM is a National School of Character. The culture of inclusivity at this middle school is fantastic. At an age, where pre-teens are discovering themselves, this school is proactive in finding innovative ways to teach and building respect amongst students for themselves and others. The building needs to be updated and I wish there was a proper stage for theater. The biggest problem with this school is it doesn't brag enough about the wonderful things happening here.... Parent: Two of my grandchildren go to this school and I have been a substitute teacher at this school (and several other area schools). River Bend is outstanding. Both grands started this school, well behind where their academic performance should have been. Both are now advanced in their knowledge. The leadership, teachers, and tools and commitment to the children are outstanding. There truly is a caring attitude about every child and the joint efforts of all the support staff (nurse, counselors, front office) is equally impressive. Parent: Words cannot express how grateful I am that we have school choice in the form of charter schools. My oldest son has moved on to GSA Middle and my youngest continues to attend GSA Smiley. We currently utilize the special education department at Smiley and although all of my son's teachers have been wonderful, his special education teacher and paraprofessional have been nothing short of phenomenal. He loves attending school, learning, and seeing his friends. They are constantly doing hands on, educational learning and he enjoys sharing his experiences and work with me after school. Having such supportive and understanding teachers who give so much of their time and their hearts is what keeps us living in the city. In other, larger schools, I could very easily see my kiddo getting overlooked, but at GSA he is able to get the small group attention and customized learning that he needs.
