Freshman: This year was my first year at North. I actually quite enjoyed it however there were some bumps. We had a few pep rallies and a bunch of movie nights. The football games are highlighted at our school along with out arts! Arts is a big part of North’s history. Our band department is involved with many of our events and helps out so much. It’s an experience many of the students are involved. Even though I’m not in band I know many people who are and they enjoy it so much! Another big part of North is the AICE program. I am a part of AICE and recommend it for students with high grades, capability to do harder work, and also do good on timed tests. AICE looks good on college applications. I do have to say that you just definitely get involved in the clubs at North especially the ones that raise money for children’s hospitals and help out with the life skills classrooms. Senior: From the perspective of an IB student, Cape Coral High School brings a pretty environment for students. I think I had my most positive experiences during sports and clubs when I was a swimmer for the school’s swim team, introducing me to many friends I wouldn’t have otherwise. Almost all my teachers have had a positive impact on me with many having a special spot in my memory. The school offers almost limitless clubs to every type of student, including me when I joined the National Honers Society and global studies. Food is about average, which is to be expected. It only offers enough to keep you going throughout the day. I can’t necessarily speak on the arts and music since I never participated in that area. However the school never made me participate in these activities, rather it allowed me to choose which electives I could participate in. Junior: In terms of the two most important parts of high school, academics and environment/safety, Oasis is easily one of the best in the district and especially the city. For Academics, The AICE program (and several AP classes) provides students with lots of opportunities to get college credits during High School. The teachers do a great job at teaching the content of their classes and making sure as many people as possible pass. The academics easily match up with North Ft Myers's AICE program and in some ways, are better. The environment at the school is very friendly and safe. Bullying and drugs are not nearly as big of a problem as they are at other public schools. That is what really sets Oasis apart from the other schools in the county, such as North. The administration and teachers are very friendly and actually try to get to know and understand students. Senior: Ida Baker has an open and welcoming community due to being placed in a very transient area. From day one, I began to build relationships and now have a close circle of friends. Additionally, Ida Baker hosts a variety of programs that offer certification, such as a firefighting program. Parent: My daughter went to Gulf Middle for grade 7. Besides her English teacher quitting during the day, needing a replacement teacher urgently, which was handled very professionally I might add...the school is excellent. Yes, there are always a few bad eggs (students) in every school. A couple of the girls at Gulf wore revealing clothing and made themselves known on their social media for being extremely interested in boys. Nothing to do with the school, admin staff, teachers, vice principal and principal - these people made Gulf A+ My daughter made some really great friends and received excellent education.... Sophomore: At Mariner there is a wonderful diverse community, and from my experience, everyone is kind to one another. The teachers and classes offered at Mariner are amazing as well. From chemistry to AP world history the teachers are supportive and great at teaching. I have also found that there is a wide variety of clubs offered at the school, which cater to various interests and have responsible, upstanding students involved. But, there is one thing i’d like to see change: the bathrooms.
