Senior: The classes are hard but the teachers will help you through it .Most of the teachers come in early to help students and stay late. Our school is really small but is growing quickly so recently our administration is working on creating more community events. Course offerings in high school are not very diverse, but as our student body grows the school has shown interest in expanding course options. As an incoming senior who has been there since fifth grade, I have been through several moves and renovations with the school as it grows in size and each time we get a new space it is used and students are generally pleased with its use. We just got a new catering service and the pizza is so good I can't wait to try more of the food! Senior: The teachers are great and really understanding. They all want the best for their students and will take the extra leap to make sure their students get to where they need to be. There are tons of clubs and organizations for every student to enjoy: from mathletes, chess teams, and robotics to even a self-care club! Parent: This school is amazing - the teachers, administrators, and students. My son has been attending for 6 years. It is very structured - and can seem overwhelming (imagine being spoken to all day in a foreign language)! But, my son is happy. I think the teachers have high expectations, but are very nurturing and they provide additional help if the student is struggling academically (I know from personal experience). I am so impressed by the dedication of the teachers - they are always available and willing to communicate and partner on plans specific to individual students. With any immersion program, the first couple years are a struggle, as students may fall behind mainstream schools - however, by 5th grade, my son is scoring well above average. Parent: My daughter was a transfer student from another charter school. The previous school she went to wanted to put her in special education. I disagreed with this and turned that down. So when my daughter was accepted into nova we were thrilled. The new way she is being taught at nova is so much better she is no where near needing special ed. Senior: Being at Lakeville South Highschool, brings a lot of great energy at festival in the school. Where as it's a school where diversity tend to be. Being here not only showed me how great the teacher are but it showed me that everyone in the school cares about how you feel as a person! Being an African American who moved from a different school during sophomore year. I can tell you personally that when I moved here, I was an introvert but being here made me and extrovert. People here create an environment where you feel safe, loved, wanted, and most importantly needed. The family and culture at Lakeville South is unbelievable, meaning everyone is part of something in the school. One last important thing that made me realize how great this school was when I had no idea about how to be ready for college but with the help of my deans, teachers,friends and family they have a system where they want EVERYONE to succeed no matter what race or gender you are.... Parent: ISLA has been such an incredible school for our children. Our kids love going to school, the staff is incredibly loving, nurturing and skilled. I’m so impressed with the IB curriculum and the reflection on being an engaged and caring global citizen. I also am so impressed with how strong my daughters’ Spanish has become! What a gift it is to have the ability to communicate in two languages. Also, I have loved the community. People care about each other and the well being of each other’s kids. Middle School Student: If I were to define Kenwood Trail by one word, that would be "diversity," allow me to clarify. The "diversity" here is that everyone is distinctive, not merely pupils, but additionally the teachers and staff. Some students study for themselves, recognizing that this will be beneficial, some study for nobody, recognizing that school is irrelevant, and some study for the grades, recognizing it will make their parents and teacher content. Same goes for teachers, some teachers teach for the students, simply teaching them the information they will practice in life. Some teachers teach for the grades, simply teaching them what is on the test, and some teacher teaches for their work, simply to get that paycheck. Every scholar is required to undertake your best, and if the student has a great teacher, he/she will always make sure you will do it using your best effort. Senior: I deeply enjoyed my time at southwest. Many courses were offered, and I was able to pursue my academic interests at a high level. I loved all the teachers and support staff, and admired how COVID safe our school tried to be. My teachers were helpful and supportive, and loved to discuss what we were learning, and not simply lecture. My peers were often driven and kind, and there was a level of diversity within the school that rounded out my education. On the other hand, I do not think that the new administration appropriately values the arts, as they attempted to cut critical departments such as guitar education and dance. Having these art programs are something that gives balance to an educational world otherwise so focused in STEM and business. Senior: It’s such an excellent school with a good supportive environment to learn in. It’s a special place because the arts classes are specialized and catered to your specific track. I’m in the musical theatre track and so far I have learned something new every single year! Whether it’s viewpoints, grid work, character development, or even just playing theatre games there is always something to learn. The academics are challenging especially if you’re taking AP or Advanced classes. My most challenging class was AP Biology, it made me work hard and take time to really develop an understanding of the material, science is my favorite subject! The only downside to SPCPA is that we have no sports and a very limited selection of student run clubs. If you care about dances and sports and the “traditional” high school experience, it may not be the school for you. Parent: Just love, love, love this school! It has been so very good for my child, who has thrived at CVA. I would highly recommend it for any family who can work with or need a flexible schedule. I love that students in the Fusion program (Grades K-12) come to campus 3 days a week for a traditional class schedule and then have a choice on the remaining two days to either work from home or come to school. The teachers and paraprofessionals are stellar! Kind, fun, patient and extremely competent. Their creativity and compassion is key! And for children who do not wish to be on campus, there is the fully online PASCAL program (Grades K-12). Senior: Being a student at Burnsville has taught me many things other than education. With there being so many different peole it has helped me see other peoles prespectives which will hlep me be more open and understamnding to people in my future. Unlike other schools, Burnsville has many different pportunities with pathways that really help students enter the workforce. An example of this is the EMT program students can take classes throughout high school and work with real EMTs to help gain experience and have more opportunities straight out of high school.
