Senior: Boston Latin School, if anything, has taught me grit. Looking back as a now senior, I regret not applying myself as much as possible in earlier years, and I've learned to see and understand that you seriously cannot get anywhere without genuine hard work. The teachers have pushed me beyond my limits sometimes, and Latin is a ridiculously difficult language, but the sense of community I gained from that mutual suffering is irreplaceable. As stressed as I was and as much as I complained, I know that I'd give a lot if I could just have those last couple of months of senior year. Don't take high school for granted!... Read 521 reviews

Junior: PART 1: If you are a parent considering CRLS and comparing it to neighboring schools such as BB&N I urge you to read through these reviews! CRLS offers notable arts programs and rigorous AP courses. The diversity in this school is great, with countless languages, and religions represented in our large student body. It is important to note though, that with this diversity comes challenges. Occasional instances of microaggressions, racism, and lack of forethought from administrators are some of the flaws here. The socio-economic differences are apparent, and friend groups while mainly diverse, are skewed more or less wealthy. We are politically active and kind, but like many high schools, bullying and online drama still exists. Note that pep-rally and football culture is low. Knowing the culture at places such as BB&N I am sure that Rindge is more accepting, but the academics and opportunities take more time to really take advantage of. Rindge has a strong relationship with Harvard.... Read 343 reviews

Senior: Boston Latin Academy has provided me with so many opportunities, lessons, and and an amazing education. I’ve meet so many amazing people here wether it be the faculty members or among my fellow peers. Everyone within the community brings something very important into the school community and it has helped me grow as a student, preparing me for my future at my college. Many of the teachers are highly qualified and I have had a good experience with the teaching material given to me over the past years of me being there. I do feel that students could have been better supported during the pandemic in terms of proving programs or more one on one mentors in terms of helping students with their mental health, but the pandemic was very random and hard to work through so it’s understandable. In conclusion my years at BLA have been great and I recommend this school to any future students.... Read 522 reviews

Parent: Our children moved from a local State school to BISB three years ago. From day one the school has provided a first class academic and social education, helping children become well rounded members of the community. The curriculum is varied, thought-provoking, interesting, and challenges and encourages the children to be creative and ambitious. The teaching staff are very attentive to each individual child’s learning capabilities and needs, and the small class sizes are a definite advantage. As an international family we are excited that our children will have the opportunity of doing the IB Diploma, a highly regarded and recognized qualification that provides children with a wonderful springboard to move into higher education not only in the US, but worldwide. Overall as parents we are thoroughly impressed with the school as a whole, but more importantly our children are engaged and interested in their education and really enjoy attending school each day. We highly recommend BISB.... Read 101 reviews

Sophomore: The school is very diverse, including all the staff and teachers which is very refreshing to see. They offer over twenty AP courses and have about four pathways including biology and STEM. There is also a wide variety of clubs and after school activities that students can participate in. Overall, I think it is a very well-rounded school and if you're looking for something to offer you college readiness then I reccomend O'Bryant. Keep in mind that it is an exam school, so you need to pass the exam first before you can get in. Good luck!... Read 385 reviews

Senior: My experience at this school has been good. There are obviously bad days, average days, and great days. The classes here are decent, and definitely better compared to other schools. School life is very structured and organized. The faculty promotes progressive messages related to anti-racism and anti-bullying. The school also does a good job of addressing issues when they arise, which I was able to view through the recent race issues that our school has been happening. This school also offers a fantastic opportunity to travel for students to really diversify and broaden their horizons.... Read 59 reviews

Parent: The only reason I gave the school only 4 stars and not 5 is because of some of the elitist parents and the fundraisers that are geared towards wealthy families. No working class family can afford tickets to a gala, so that does marginalize some families. However, the amazing Principal is such a wonderful administrator, and caring and compassionate to all students needs. The teachers have all been top-notch and go above and beyond in every way possible. And it is wonderful the way that they take full advantage of the resources available to them being in the heart of Boston. From weekly trips to the skating rink, to the New England Aquarium and frequent visits to the state house, Museum of Science, events at TD Garden, North End Library, a collaborative with Boston Ballet and New England Conservancy... the list goes on and on... Junior: It has been good so far this year! I have enjoyed the teachers time and effort working with students, this has made learning more efficient since the teachers take their time to make sure everyone is on the same page and if someone if left behind the teachers can make time for them. This being my first year at this high school I was nervous because I thought I wouldn’t be able to fit in, but I made a lot of friends who want similar objectives to me making it easier to communicate with others and not feeling excluded.... Senior: What I like about New Mission is how they make sure each student is ready for college which includes having AP (advanced placement) courses such as AP Literature, AP Language and Composition, AP Calculous and AP Statistics. However, one thing I would like to change is that instead of just focusing on academics the school can also focus on adding programs that could show off student's creativity such as art classes, music classes, and dance classes. Having this kind of outlet gives kids a chance to explore their creative talents and showcase them to throughout the school and not feel constricted to just learning.... Read 29 reviews

Alum: my experience is Boston Adult Academy was great, They have really good teachers that care for the students in the success in and after school. It was absolute the best school I have ever attend. they help students to find college and have goals to reach after you are done there. this school has a lot of diversity, most of the students are immigrants. I learn about other cultures like Haiti which more of the students are from, they are happy and friendly. I did friends that are going to stay with me forever, we felt safe being at school, also the teachers did a lot of activity with the students like BBQ and live music, it was always fun to be there and the learning methods where also really good, they teach English to those students that needed like myself, when I came to this country I had to start with English level 1 and in the end I finish high school with a lot of knowledge about history, math, physics, writing and speaking skills. in overall it was a great experience.... Senior: RPHS is a great school! even though it is very strict, they main goal is to make sure you get in and graduate into a 4 year college. students and staff always care about you and your well being therefore whenever you need help with something, especially with your college applications they will always be there for you. Roxbury Preparatory High School can offer you so many opportunities, such as summer jobs, resources to apply for college, clubs/ programs, etc. the diversity is one of my favorite things because there are many students from so many different backgrounds and you get to have the opportunity to get to know people with so many different stories and would give you more knowledge about things you might did not know. RPHS community is always engage in everything and even though I will be graduating in a few weeks, I can highly recommend this school. Middle School Student: I'm currently in sixth grade and went to the Mendell up until third grade. My brother is currently a fourth grade student there. I absolutely loved my time at the Mendell and constantly regret leaving for the advanced work class at another school. The teachers were so nice and supportive but still pushed me to high standards. They also supported those students who were struggling and made sure they understood the lessons. One example would be my friend who had dislexia and transferred to the Mendell at the beginning of second grade. The teacher was able to help her get from way below the ELA reading standards to above the standard despite her insistence that she couldn't read. There is also lots of parent AND student involvement which creates a great school environment.... Read 2 reviews
