Junior: PART 1: If you are a parent considering CRLS and comparing it to neighboring schools such as BB&N I urge you to read through these reviews! CRLS offers notable arts programs and rigorous AP courses.The diversity in this school is great, with countless languages, and religions represented in our large student body. It is important to note though, that with this diversity comes challenges. Occasional instances of microaggressions, racism, and lack of forethought from administrators are some of the flaws here.The socio-economic differences are apparent, and friend groups while mainly diverse, are skewed more or less wealthy.We are politically active and kind, but like many high schools, bullying and online drama still exists. Note that pep-rally and football culture is low. Knowing the culture at places such as BB&N I am sure that Rindge is more accepting, but the academics and opportunities take more time to really take advantage of. Senior: Arlington High is honestly a great school with a ton of opportunities for students to explore courses relating to their interests. It offers many AP courses, but students can typically only start taking them junior year unless they're super ahead. There's also a ton of sports and clubs and pretty much anyone can start a new one if they have a few people interested and an advisor. Parent: We're really happy with the experience we had at the Ottoson. My child found the school to be welcoming, the children to be friendly and non judgemental, the clubs and extracurricular activities to be outstanding, they had an excellent music program as well, and the real standout was the teachers. All of my child's teachers were dedicated, really kind and just amazing educators. My child felt emotionally secure at OMS. I think it's an excellent school that really puts the kids first. The building could use an overhaul but my child really enjoyed her time at the Ottoson, and she will really miss her core teachers, her art and computer science teachers, the orchestra director and the librarian. Middle School Student: I would say that the teachers I've had at McCarthy-Towne have been overall good. Since I am graduating this year (6th Grade) I'll have been going there for four years. My first teacher (3rd Grade) was very nice and welcoming, so was my second but in 5th grade my teacher was really mean and controlling. This year they are preparing us for Jr. High so we have two "main" teachers who are both really nice in their own ways. One thing I dislike about the school is the food, if you are considering sending your child her make sure to pack their lunch! Another is the fact that they don't really prepare you for the Jr. High in the sense that there is barely any homework. Overall a good school though.... Read 1 review

Junior: Ive been attending community charter school of Cambridge for 4 years. The academics at the school are great. For my first two years at the school the behavioral system was quite harsh but it got better over time. The community is very close and loving and the teachers genuinely care about their students. Senior: This school offered a lot of support during the pandemic. Students were able to speak about their feelings and their opinions were valued. This school made being on zoom very interesting and educational. This school has raised me well and disciplined me with understanding on why having great behavior is beneficial to you and others. It is very diverse and has a lot of students coming from Haitian decent. There are lots of African-American teachers, the students feel comfortable seeing the amount of representation. This school is competitive in sports and encourage kids to participate in gym. Students do lots of hands on projects and work outside, and gardening. Parent: The King Open community is an amazing one- supportive, engaged, and diverse. King Open focuses on social justice as its theme, which means it's integrated into the day to day curriculum rather than being a one-off topic. The school spends more time on Project Based Learning and Social Emotional Learning than most schools in Cambridge, which contribute greatly to the school's atmosphere. Teachers and staff alike are dedicated and highly skilled. King Open also houses the Olá Program, Cambridge's dual immersion Portuguese language track (you need to sign up for this program separately in the lottery). Olá teaches children in Portuguese half the day and English half the day. No Portuguese knowledge or background is needed (most kids in the classes don't have any connection to Portuguese). Senior: Minuteman is a regional technical and career school. It's not your typical vocational school. Minuteman offers career majors in typical vocational studies in plumbing or welding, but also has biotechnical engineering, robotics, computer programming and design and visual communications. A new school was completed in 2019 and it's spectacular. The teaching staff is the best part about the school. Alum: I loved going to Edward M Kennedy Academy for Health Careers. Everyone who works there truly wants the best for you. Was the name of the schools says, it is directed towards health careers, but don't worry. Senior: This school has a strong academic curriculum and college and career readiness programs to help students be in the best shape that they can be for life after high school. They have an amazing support system through teachers, college and career counselors, and mentors. However, one of a few things that they're flawed in is staying consistent and being fair in some of their rule making. For example, they have a "ELH" rule that adds extended learning for students who miss any amount of class. However, they are not lenient towards doctor's appointments that can't be missed/rescheduled or any extremely personal circumstances.
