Alum: One of the aspects I loved the most was the incredible diversity that the school embraced. I am genuinely grateful for the rich tapestry of cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives that made up our student body. The school always emphasized equity and equality, celebrating our differences and fostering a sense of unity among students from various backgrounds. Washtenaw International also stood out in its advocacy and support for the LGBT community. The school organized events like Edgy Day and Diversity Days to raise awareness and acceptance. However, one area that could have been improved was the lack of a robust school culture. Senior: I think that my overall experience with this school has been positive because it is very academically driven. I feel very prepared for college because of the great curriculum and teachers that support me. Junior: As many of you know, Novi High School is one of the top schools in Michigan as ranked online from many web sources. Novi High School offers a variety of classes, extracurriculars, and volunteer opportunities. From personal experience, the classes enforce their rules of academic integrity. The sports teams, on the other hand, don't enforce behavior as well. People can get away with mentioning swear words to others with no punishment. I would like to see this change. There should be formal, academic punishments for saying swear words in school and in all school-sponsored sports, activities, and extracurriculars. Senior: Huron High School is an amazing place, Thankfully I've had a good experience I find It amazing that Huron has all these academic opportunities like their IB diploma programs I am currently a part of the Career Program at Huron and it has been one of the best decisions in my life to take and I would recommend it to freshman and sophomore to take when they become juniors. The career program gives you all these unique experiences and helps you build your professional skills, the program requires you to take DP courses to complete service hours, and even make a website to include all your personal and professional skills. Senior: I have greatly enjoyed my experiences at Community High, a small neighborhood school with an informal culture. Students are admitted based on a lottery system so I feel very lucky to have gotten into Community. The small student body means that I often have more one-on-one time with teachers. The students who attend community are kids who dance to the beat of their own drum. I really like this because everyone is very accepting of everyone regardless of gender identity, sexuality, race, etc... In addition, there are no cliques. The teachers are very invested in their students and make you feel that they genuinely care. My only complaint about Community is the lack of diversity. Junior: I would say my Pioneer High School experience was overall good. I went through a lot of friendships and relationships. I will say when coming to Pioneer I was undecided where to go and i wish that I went to a different school like Huron, considering both of my friends died by going go to Pioneer ( well I wouldn’t say by going but the safety and resources of Pioneer). Kids are freely to walk off of campus without a pass or any type of security. Yes the hall monitors will ask and the students will respond but they’re is no specific verification if the student is actually allowed to go off campus. The safety of my friends or my fellow classmates is something I would like to see change like getting verification that I can go off campus for Lunch or i can go home. Senior: Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Skyline High School. I felt that I was pushed to grow stronger academically, socially, and athletically. I was fortunate enough to have amazing teachers, and be apart of an amazing soccer program. One suggestion id have for the school is to create more whole school events, and keep promoting the CUBE. It would be nice to have some more school spirit! Additionally, the CUBE wasn't super active in my underclassmen years, and I never got to utilize it. Senior: I generally like my school. The education and diversity aspects make me very fortunate. However, when there is a negative situation or a problem that needs to be solved, I feel that the administration isn't the best at handling them. Either proper discipline isn't enforced, the "solution" isn't accurately solving the problem at hand, or new rules seem to only make current situations worse. Pretty much every year our school is on the news for things like racism, homophobia, transphobia, or some type of discrimination of a minority group. Typically completed by a student. Middle school student: I really like this school but it’s sad how all my friends at Boulan make fun of my school for being “bad”. There’s no such thing as a bad school. We have exactly the same curriculum and our teachers are the best.
