Senior: Yorktown High School is a great high school with excelling programs for learning!! The staff and teachers are majority very helpful and kind and challenge students daily to become better students and people in general. The only negative aspect of the school is the lack of diversity and the common bias against certain groups, students can sometimes show exclusive behaviors, and also the culture of "popularity" is a common theme and social aspect of the school. Junior: I really like Washington-Liberty because it is such an inclusive school. Students of many different race, ethnicities, religions, etc can all find ways to be involved in this school. There are many clubs and programs that Washington-Liberty offers where students can actively participate in. If you're struggling in school, teachers at Washington-Liberty will help support you all the way through. That's also one of the good things about the school. There are many teachers and mentors (possibly students), who are there to guide you if you ever need any kind of support. Senior: Basis' accelerated program will launch children far ahead as far as academics go. The social scene at Basis will not be a problem since we live in a city and kids who want to socialize with new people will always find a way. That being said you will see the same faces in your grade for about 6 whole years due to school size and its inability to let outsiders join after 6th grade. You will know everyone in your class and the name of their goldfish. If you like the idea of that and want your child to be one step ahead of other children when it comes to the college process, this is the school for them. You will be taking high school courses starting in middle school however so do prepare for a bumpy road and a few sleepless nights. EVERYONE who powered through the stress has gotten into a good college and they spend the second half of their senior year working, traveling or interning for an optional senior project.... Parent: Arlington Traditional School (ATS) was the start of many lifelong friendships for my children even though they came from all over the County. It fully prepared them for more rigorous academics in middle school, high school and eventually college. The teachers and the administration were terrific. My son even went back to visit his kindergarten teacher after his high school graduation to thank her for giving him such a great start. They were involved in sports, scouts and the extended day program after school. Fourth and fifth graders participate in music programs with their choice of instruments and a chorus. Every class does a play and it is performed in front of the school at the Friday assembly. Parent involvement is strong and there is a very internationally diverse enrollment. NOTE: My two children were at Arlington Traditional School in its former facility before it moved for the 21-22 school year, so I can't comment on the current facility.... Read 2 reviews

Alum: The county is crazy about test scores, so they really push everyone to take harder math classes, but overall, this school is great. The teachers care a lot about what they do, the area is nice, and the students are always learning and taking advantage of the opportunities there. I spent all of my three years of middle school at Swanson, and although not all of the kids were nice, it gave me an incredibly strong foundation for the rest of my academic career.... Works Here: One of the best schools in all of D.C. I’m a young teacher so I just got into the teacher business. But I can say teaching there is amazing. Especially teaching the 7th grader. Alum: This school has an amazing support system, even after I graduated back in 2019 the staff member at this school love to stay in contact with me to make sure I'm doing well. During school, teachers and other staff members will try and make sure that you apply for as many scholarships as possible so that you wouldn't have to take out many loans during your time in college. A variety of teachers at this school are very relaxed, meaning, you can always come to their class or office if you need to talk about anything or if they're not busy you can always come and chill in their presence because most of them have the best personality. I believe this school has great resources that you should take advantage of, but I believe that not only this school but a variety of schools around the U.S doesn't teach you everything you need to know to maneuver through life. Junior: I enjoyed the staff-to-student ratio and programs the school provided students. The opportunity and drive for student success are there and possible. The amount of support and funding the school provides students is exactly what students need as they prepare for college and career readiness. The KIPP Forward team is always there for financial and overall support. The MHP is there for mental support.
