Alum: Hume-Fogg is very academically focused, but there is also time for students to explore their interests and have fun. All academic classes at Hume-Fogg are honors or AP classes, but it is very manageable and enjoyable once you're used to it. For the fun aspect, there is a Titanball tournament hosted every year during school hours which students can freely attend, there are many club, during and after school, and there are many sports teams that students can join too. This is great for getting to know your classmates and forming bonds with one another. The Arts Department in Hume-Fogg is wonderful! The bands have received top marks at CPA, the chorus has received top marks in their assessments, and the Theatre Arts Department puts on wonderful plays that all the students have had the chance to enjoy. As a band student myself, I truly enjoyed my time playing an instrument and music that other's found too difficult for high schoolers. For academics, the teachers make everything rewarding.... Senior: I love the environment that MLK creates for it's students. MLK works hard to challenge their students in academics and life. It expands their students knowledge and opportunities to different sciences, mathematics, and engineering options. MLK also creates a place for their students to feel safe to express themselves and grow their understanding of different cultures and ways of life. Due to the large diversity in MLK, the interaction among the students allows them to witness new ways of thinking and opinions. This opens the students up to have an open mind when it comes to different situations. MLK has been a wonderful place to learn, grow, challenge, and experience life. MLK has allowed me to expand my way of thinking and way of interacting with others. This will allow me to be prepared for future interactions with others from different backgrounds than mine. Senior: My school is different in the way they seek diversity and inclusion and how our whole system at Valor is very different from other schools in TN because we have circle which is a time for our home classroom to be able to be vulnerable and learn more about one another. Additionally, the teachers here are very interactive and helpful which I will forever be grateful for because I have met some of the best teachers at this school. Something I would like to see change however, is allowing students voices and opinions to be more heard because even though there was some minimal change this year, students were always the last to hear about everything and there was a lot of things that was done without the notice of students. Niche User: Meigs Academic Magnet is an excellent school for 5th through 8th graders to be challenged academically. The staff are friendly and cooperative, and the teachers know how to operate a classroom in a professional manner. Meigs can be a better school by training their teachers to not show favoritism in the classroom. Alum: I had a pretty good experience at this school. when ever I was having trouble reading and writing there were plenty of teachers that helped me after school so that I would not be behind . I really appreciated that and I will as ways remember the wonderful staff at Lockeland. When I attended Lockeland there was a lot of diversity but it is not as much now. Sophomore: At Valor Voyager Academy my experience was full of optimism and inspiration. At valor, we had a chance to connect with many diverse communities that share a similar background the same as we did. We had a chance to support and check-in with each other. A method we would always do every week is Circle. Circle is where we sit down in a circle and we reflect on our feeling word for the day and we have the opportunity just to take the time of the day and check-in not with others but to ourselves as well. The support is amazing and valor helps find wild and amazing pathways for students to accomplish as a goal and an opportunity. Circle should be a recommendation to all schools and students. At valor, we help track students behavior under an app usage called Kick board overtime the student learns how to adapt different environments under issues and problems, but with the support will help them exceed their opportunities full of joy and kindness to a succeed in academics amazingly amazed.... Alum: All of my teachers who taught me encouraged their students to reach for higher learning far beyond the classroom setting. As a Blue Ribbon school for two years in a row and a Red Ribbon for the next year, this school has the highest test score and grade point average recognition of any other middle school in the district in the METRO Nashville, TN district! It also helps to note that this school has well catered to the local nearby neighborhood youth as well as children from all parts of the city of Nashville for the last 35 years since the school's opening in (now known as 12 South) low income South Nashville area. Junior: The best parts of my experience is being on a college schedule, I do not go to school from 8-3pm, some of my classmates get out at 12pm everyday. We have extended winter and summer breaks we get out May 5 and don’t go back to mid/late August for summer. We graduate with a high school diploma and an associate’s degree in a pathway we choose. Additionally, the school is very family. You can also participate in sports or band at our partner school or your zone school. What I would like to see changed is our prep during our lowerclassmen classes(we only take highschool courses then) for college. I did not feel adequately prepared for difficult college professors all the time. I also think more evaluation around our schedule before we’re allowed to change it would be immensely helpful because I changed my schedule when I should have kept it the way it was. Parent: Purpose Prep is a high-performing and vigorous school that meets each and every child where they are. They provide students with the resources to get every child where they need to be at grade level. Purpose Prep has been a great school for my kindergartener. He is excelling in all of his work. He is at a mid 1st grade level already. The school keeps the kids motivated and engaged with high energy levels activities. They have the children encouraging each other throughout the day. Junior: Kipp Academy Nashville was honestly the best experience of my life. The teachers got me into the Colligate spirit by having activities weekly like chant offs or Team time every Friday. I remember we were categorized into colleges and the teacher for each group kept students hyped about not only their college but college in general. I started fifth grade apart of the University of Kentucky then went to Georgetown and finally UPenn. Even though I wasn't apart of the University of Miami, It became my top dream school throughout Middle school and freshman year of high school. Kipp Academy Nashville, being a charter school, was academically focused and valued getting students not only to college but through college as well. Senior: STEM Prep High School has an amazing guidance counselor for all that you want to know scholarships, college information, information that you need to know about your transcript, information about how to make your resume look better, and even more, but the best thing of it all gives you all that information of every question you ask with a happy smile even when she has to overwork at times. The uniforms are ok, although helping to diversify the uniform without making it unprofessional is within the realm of possibilities. The clubs and activities do exist, but the time we have to do said clubs and activities are kind of missing from it all since if I were to get an idea for a club and it was approved I would love it but would hate that we couldn't actually do the things about the club that I would have used my time for getting approval for.
