Alum: Amazing academics and college matriculation. Many high achieving students but not over the top competitive. About 18 AP classes, many honors and electives. New building is insane. Really great music and art departments for a public school, variety of well established sport teams. Hundreds of clubs, good resources available, and many nice teachers and people. Very safe. Overall, the experience is what you make of it as it is still a public high school and every school has its problems but BHS is definitely one of the best out there!...Read 221 Reviews

Parent: We moved to the Burbank district last year (spring of 2020) when my kids were in 2nd and 4th grade and they have never been happier in school. Both of their teachers are absolutely excellent, and their classmates are kind, curious, and generally very well behaved. Prior to this district we had experienced Watertown and before that, three local preschools; the environment at the Burbank is hands down the best we've found both for academic learning and for social/emotional learning. ...The one misgiving I hav is that foreign language is not offered until 6th grade. This is nothing short of a terrible waste; children's brains are primed to learn language at younger ages and early exposure provides an academic advantage that lasts through high school and college. I wish I could give five full stars because everything else about the Burbank is a complete dream...Read 2 Reviews

Junior: PART 1: If you are a parent considering CRLS and comparing it to neighboring schools such as BB&N I urge you to read through these reviews! CRLS offers notable arts programs and rigorous AP courses. The diversity in this school is great, with countless languages, and religions represented in our large student body. It is important to note though, that with this diversity comes challenges. Occasional instances of microaggressions, racism, and lack of forethought from administrators are some of the flaws here. The socio-economic differences are apparent, and friend groups while mainly diverse, are skewed more or less wealthy. We are politically active and kind, but like many high schools, bullying and online drama still exists. Note that pep-rally and football culture is low. Knowing the culture at places such as BB&N I am sure that Rindge is more accepting, but the academics and opportunities take more time to really take advantage of. Rindge has a strong relationship with Harvard...Read 341 Reviews

Parent: My three children have been attending SLA for five years now. The school feels like family! All the teachers know and engage with my children, even if they haven't had them in their class. Because it's a small school the students get lots of one-on-one instruction and all can participate in sports or music, not just the top 10%. My kids are participating in the honors program and are on track to attend competitive universities--I attribute much of that to the extra attention they get. Best of all, the school supports our family's values and are partners with me in raising my kids...Read 46 Reviews

Parent: I have had a pretty positive experience with our first grader. She's been in school since JK at MLK and in the immersion program. Half of the day is spent learning Chinese and half of the day is spent learning English. Here's what I like about the school...1. Peers. I really like her peers and parents. Everyone that I have met have been nice and I haven't worried about issues such as bullying. She goes to school happy every day, so learning comes naturally...2. Academics. I like that she is exposed to a different language. One parent explained to me that kids may not test as well in English (but surprisingly, MLK kids test just as well in English as kids from other Cantabridgian schools) because they spend half of their day learning another language. There are no standardized tests that measures the fact that you're learning another language...3. Parents. They're great people that I'd like to hang out with even if we didn't have kids. Many are knowledgeable and fierce advocates.Read 3 Reviews

Parent: The King Open community is an amazing one- supportive, engaged, and diverse. King Open focuses on social justice as its theme, which means it's integrated into the day to day curriculum rather than being a one-off topic. The school spends more time on Project Based Learning and Social Emotional Learning than most schools in Cambridge, which contribute greatly to the school's atmosphere. Teachers and staff alike are dedicated and highly skilled. King Open also houses the Olá Program, Cambridge's dual immersion Portuguese language track (you need to sign up for this program separately in the lottery). Olá teaches children in Portuguese half the day and English half the day. No Portuguese knowledge or background is needed (most kids in the classes don't have any connection to Portuguese). King Open will be moving into a brand new facility in Fall 2019. Love this school and community!...Read 5 Reviews

Alum: I grew up in Chicago, where few students attend boarding school, so I didn't know what to expect when I traveled across the country for high school. I'm so thankful I took that risk! Chatham Hall was a warm, challenging, exciting environment. It opened up opportunities I never would have had anywhere else. As a student on scholarship, I felt consistently valued and supported. ...After graduation, I came to appreciate the experience even more: I arrived at college far better prepared than almost any of my peers. Through college, a doctorate, and now a STEM career, my Chatham Hall education has remained a touchstone...Most importantly, Chatham Hall feels like home to this day. Not bad for a place that sounded so far from home when I first considered it.Read 44 Reviews

Parent: Our daughter has had a wonderful kindergarten experience at Cambridge Friends. The community is diverse, engaged, and supportive and the teachers are wonderful. We've especially been impressed with the friendly and casual feel of the school, and with the depth of resources. Our daughter loves the extended day program (which is nice for us parents too!) Even in the unique COVID times, the school works to create a community which is appreciated. The school has managed the challenges of COVID in a pragmatic and transparent way which inspires confidence in the administration. In terms of education, the student-teacher ratio is impressive and we really see the impact of it in the feedback we get from teachers about our daughter and the ability to customize classroom activities to world events and questions from the kids. We're thrilled to be at CFS and recommend it highly!...Read 13 Reviews
