Parent: We've been here for a few years now. I have been extremely impressed with the teaching. We attended a private French immersion school before this, and I think that academically speaking, this is very similar in terms of the teaching and curriculum, only it's free! I'd also say the student/family community is very warm and diverse in every sense of the word. So we're very glad we made the switch. Alum: I'm part of the graduated class of 2020. The first thing to note about this school is that it is small, but because it is small there is much more one-to-one contact with teachers and counselors. It becomes much easier for students who reach out for help from teachers and administrative staff. However, due to its size, extracurricular clubs and sports are not as prevalent, and if they are, only succeed due to teachers' insistence and effort. Academic-wise, the teachers I came across were focused on seeing their students succeed and were truly passionate or willing to share their information and experience. At the end of my time here the school linked with Harvard University to bring their graduates to teach classes at the high school. For College Prep, the school worked very hard to host events and offer students tools to ensure all parts of the college application process had support. Junior: Hey! I'm currently enrolled at Connecting Waters and it's my last year here, and what can I say, it's been a ride. I got to meet so many new people here, try so many new things, and most of all, learn to be independent. I felt like I was finally able to do what I liked instead of just the general classes, such as English and math. I was able to dive into new subjects and learn so many new things. Sophomore: My experience has been really good with d.tech. It gives you the space to achieve what you want to and start your own projects/pursue your own interests. However, if you aren't self-directed, d.tech may not be for you because you can just as easily not do anything with the opportunity and waste your time. If you decide not to do anything, a normal high school may be better for you because then at least you will have super hard classes. The classes at d.tech don't have a ton of homework, but everyone is involved in at least 1 community college class, weighted as an AP, a club or two, sports or extracurriculars, and a project of some sort. Senior: The teachers are incredibly invested in student success. Very small school, so you get close to your classmates and teachers. EBIA is hands-on and STEAM-based and has a college preparatory curriculum. Senior: This school is very good, the teachers that work there care about the students. They care not only about their education but also how they are doing in their personal life. All the staff in the school take the time to get to know the students & build relationships with them. This school’s goal is to get their students prepared for college & understand the options that they have. They teach you life lessons that you will need when you finish high school & step into the real world. The relationship that you build at this school will stick with you for a very long time. Alum: I graduated from here in 2017. The community and staff are great, but since it's Montessori, only the students whom have an interest in doing well, benefit from this kind of teaching. Also, since it is a charter school, we did not have many extracurricular or other non-academic programs. The middle school is 7th and 8th grade. In the small community, I was able to make connections and build strong bonds with my peers and teachers. The middle school is very good at preparing their students for high school. So well, actually, that the students generally have less of a struggle in high school. Unfortunately, the work load is a lot, which causes a decent amount of stress among the students, particularly when concerning group work. There is a group assignment every week, which gets stressful. Senior: My overall experience going to this High School has been a memorable one. Students and Staff are welcoming. The staff truly care about seeing the students succeed and put their best foot forward in making sure we understand the concepts they teach us. There are a variety of clubs that students can choose from that would best suit their interests. As there are also numerous sports students can be apart of aside from their school work. There's also an annual event at Mt. Eden that happens every year, It's Monarch day. This day brings students, staffs, parents and alumni all together. The school spirit is high, an experience that I won't ever forget. As well as that, there are extracurricular programs students can involve themselves in like Dance, Choir, Art, Band, and more! Senior: The school is really small in a good way. There are about 20-27 students per class making it easy to receive help from a teacher in a fast manner. The school does lack programs and a variety of sports but that's okay because it's really small so it makes sense as to why there aren't a lot of sports/programs available. The school highly emphasizes we are a community made up of the staff, students, and teachers and I agree that we are. Junior: The best part of being a student at Hayward High School is that I get to feel like I belong at this school with so many different people with so many different backgrounds no one, including myself feels left out. Everyone is a character of their own being and no one is the same. Everyone is free to express themselves how they feel fit. I for one, am so glad that I am apart of Hayward high because I don’t really think that there’d be another school I can go to without feeling out of place. Hayward High definitely has some negatives and I believe the main negative is that there are many fights that to breakout during lunch or nutrition break that shortens these valued breaks we as students need. The violence is however getting better and is resolved quickly but I do not think shortening our needed breaks is needed because two people decided to fight. Senior: Lighthouse is a great school for low income and minorities to come and get a decent learning experience because the teachers are caring of the students understanding more than how much work is complete. The school also helps students learn to make a community within the classrooms and assist each other out. It does have less resources and certain students do push back lessons but overall, it is a great school to have teachers who actually care for the students and wish for them to succeed.... Junior: Tennyson High School is what you'd expect in the minority city of Hayward, California. Yes, its facilities are on the older end, and students are primarily of minority descent... It may look daunting, indeed. Nevertheless, it is always helpful to not judge a book simply by its cover, and this is especially useful when it comes to Tennyson High School. This high school offers many opportunities through its selection of AP and honors courses, programs and electives, and sports and clubs. Such teachers are not only limited to knowledgeable mentors, but they are also friendly and cooperative human beings. Such support is necessary in the journey through high school! From my three years here at Tennyson, I do not regret attending this high school. From what I can see, I have grown from my experiences here, and I hope to discover even more in my final senior year, next year. Tennyson High School may not look the best. Senior: I liked the environment and the spirit that my middle school had, i was also in the leadership program which i had abchance to make the school more fun involving teachers and student . So i had a very good time in middle school snd wish i can go back and do it again. I got to pick our dance themss then decorate the place ,m. I gotto come up with lunch time activities like 3 v3 vasketball at lunch with students and staff , lits if kids joined that. They also had this academy that i was in called LEAD academy which had only black and latino make students in 3 of the first class periods. The academy was made because people say that those teo groups of people are the main to do bad in life and we wantedto make a change in that belief.
