Junior: Ardrey Kell school is the best school there is to get you ready for college. Aside from everyone trying to be the best of the best, the facility here is amazing. Everywhere you turn there is always someone ready to be by your side. Academics are amazing. Not only are you put to the test, you are also challenged in the classes that you are in. If you're in an AP class, it's AP. The sports a amazing. Everyone one the team is competitive but also caring. Parent: Having been at the school since its inception and assisting in many ways from start-up fundraising, marketing, assisting in the classroom and coaching, I can tell you that the Scholars’ Academy is a gifted school like no other. With my three children attending (one having had AWEFUL experiences in public school before being identified as twice gifted), they were able to freely explore their intellectual abilities and create solid lifelong friendships. All organizations have growing pains and our school may not be perfect for your student… that is an opportunity for the parent to find the right place where their student flourishes! Middle School Student: Hi! My name is Jia and I’m an 8th grader at Pleasant Knoll Middle School. I think my school is wonderful for the most part. We have a really great staff as well as facilities such as the computer lab and the library! However, I wish there was more diversity. As you can probably imagine, there also is very little culture and I can’t really express mine. As a South Asian, I think diversity is really important and should be valued. Additionally, our school puts most of its emphasis on sports. The academic as well as the theater, music and art programs don’t get as much funding or materials. I feel as though athletics, academics, and the arts are all equally important and should be treated that way! I do believe Pleasant Knoll Middle is an engaging environment and I am truly lucky to have an opportunity to go to a great school, but there are certainly just a few things I would change.... Junior: I’ve been attending CATA for three years now and I’ve never been happier at a school before! The teachers are all amazing; they’re all so supportive, engaging, and teach incredibly well. On top of that, the environment itself is very comfortable. It’s a very diverse school where everyone can express themselves freely without judgement and I really appreciate the open atmosphere at CATA. Though we may not have the best athletics (which I personally don’t have much interest in as it is), our school is very competitive in terms of academics. I feel like I’m actually somewhat challenged here which I’m personally very grateful for. Parent: Going to Charlotte Engineering Early College is a privilege. How the school works is, you take 4 classes each semester for freshmen and sophomore year. Earning majority of your high school credits through those first two years. Since the school is more focused on earning college credit, they don’t offer sports you have to do that through your homeschool. They also don’t offer electives. For the early college the elective would be considered the engineering class and the computer science class. Then in junior year you get to take college classes, and only one high school class. You have a lot of freedom out on campus. Kids that go to early college save a lot of money. You get two years worth of free college, because the school also offers a 13th year which is earning free college classes. The 13th year is optional. Depending on the college you go to sometimes the credits transfer and sometimes they don’t. Overall I 10/10 would recommend Charlotte Engineering Early College.... Read 22 reviews

Senior: Overall my experience was better than most. I had good teachers, friends, options, staff, classes, opportunities, clubs. Some things that I liked are the nurse, special education staff, the amount and variability of classes and clubs you can be apart of, the technology available, the sciences classes and teachers, panther paws, morning announcements, cans drive, availability for touring, athletics. Some things I would like to have improve would be the chemistry and foreign language department teaching methods, the junior paper, seating and room for lunch, bullying in general, the bathrooms, cleanliness and safety of the school, homework load, how every class and teacher gives tests on the same days, the heating and cooling extreme variances, acceptance and time to use the bathroom, and for the councilors to work more closely with students.... Parent: Queen's Grant has been a wonderful academic experience for our family and located conveniently in Mint Hill. What sets this school apart is the moral curriculum which you do not find in the public / County schools. It has been great for our kids to understand how integrity, perseverance, patience, etc. all play a part in all the other subjects in life. We have also appreciated how the school plans the calendar each year to mindfully choose teacher work days on Fridays / Mondays so that families can take a long weekend off (instead of for example - a Wednesday). Works Here: My experience at UPA has been nothing but positive. All of the admin staff is very supportive and will help you with anything that you need. They work hard to make UPA the best they can. They give teachers feedback on their instruction, give resources for rigor, followed safety protocols during covid, and will communicate to parents and staff. The teachers here strive for growth for their students and communicate weekly with families, giving updates on their child's progress and are super friendly. Senior: Becoming an early college student is an opportunity that I recommend to any rising high school students. The opportunity to graduate with a high school diploma and an associate’s degree should not be overlooked. Students have the opportunity to gain firsthand college experience while working with counselors and advisors. Parent: I've had three kids attend Irwin. We love this school. There are great opportunities for the children and the classrooms are amazing. Even though it is an older building, there are many upgrades including a renovated (in the 90's - but the building itself is much, much older) interior and filtered water bottle filling stations. We've had much success with the teachers and admin at this school. I can't imagine sending my kids elsewhere. Alum: I attended Highland MIll Montessori from 2006-12. I really enjoyed my time there. Everybody was cool and knew each other well and I got a lot of one on one time with my teachers. Of course being in elementary school your going to run across other students who you don't really get along with, but other than that everything was fine. Now, everyone has a different experience and from what I have heard the school has changed drastically. Don't base your decision off of my words though because, like I said, things have changed. They got a new principle, a lot of new teachers, it may not be the same experience for you (or your child) as it was for me. Middle School Student: For the most part, this is a really good school. Some teachers are kind of unprofessional and don't know how to teach as many kids as they have to very well, which is understandable. There is a decent amount of busywork, but it's fine if you can manage your time well. The food was as good as you'd expect from any normal public school. I was taught a lot when I went here and I remember many good experiences. A lot of the bad reviews are about bullying. Honestly, the bullying isn't all that bad. Everyone has their own problems, and people don't understand with that. It's simply a vicious circle of people not knowing where to go for help or what to do with their problems. Senior: Harper is an amazing school for ambitious and independent students looking to learn about and advance in their desired careers, while still attending high school. Most of the students are amazing and friendly, and the teachers I've had are great and understanding! The only complaint I have is that administration can be slow to reply to emails. The school’s location is a small part of the Harper Campus, but it's very cozy, clean, and welcoming. I have matured a lot since enrolling there, and I've sort of been forced to become more responsible. I'm very grateful for this, and I think it's great to be exposed to college material/workload and learn to adapt to a fast-paced environment. I have a variety of classes to choose from, and a lot more freedom compared to a traditional high school. I appreciate this since it has helped guide me towards my dream career. Parent: I had the most wonderful time at Randolph Middle School! The teachers, at least the ones I have, were the best they could possibly be. Everything I needed was on the rise of a hand and they allowed the students so much freedom, but not too much freedom. Going there was the best 3 years that I have had in my entire life and I would do it all over and wouldn't change one thing. There are so many different opportunities and special things that you can be included in if you go there and there isn't one thing that you can not do. Junior: Levine Middle College High School has provided me the advantage of receiving a high-leveled education in a short amount of time.
