Senior: My overall experiences being a student at East High school has been beyond wonderful. I had rough start to high school, as I spent my freshman year online during lock down due to the COIVD-19 pandemic. So least to say, starting my first day of in person school in my sophomore year was nerve wracking. Although I was a sophomore, it felt like I was a freshmen all over again. Getting lost and running around the school trying to find my class was how my first day of school went. After that day, I remember feeling upset and worried about the rest of my school year. Though thankfully, I had the opportunity to see East High School's wonderful community blossom. Alum: Denver School of the Arts was overall a very enriching experience when it came to furthering my skills in the arts. The resources provided for this course of study were phenomenal. The main concerns I would raise for any incoming students are that: #1) While this school can be very beneficial for someone looking to follow the arts, it can often be difficult path for someone who has decided that the arts are not for them. Many students decide that they would rather pursue a different passion in life by the time they are seniors. This can make the highly art centered environment fairly hard to be a part of. Especially since there are no sports! #2) The school spirit is generally lacking. While there are many school sponsored events that students can attend while enrolled at DSA, many of them revolve around individual art forms. Sophomore: Honestly i really like my high school experience here at DSST Mont view, they offer so many college opportunities, there's so many clubs for so many interests, sports , diversity & inclusivity, advanced classes and prepare you overall for college. I'm black and Muslim growing up I've been to 8 different schools but I've never been as accepted by my community and have as many friends as i did in this school. The only 2 things I would say is the the school and system is very controlling considering we are going into college independent, and the school doesnt have many school lunch options that are vegetarian or halal. but overall i love it here if I had to switch i wouldn't!... Alum: DSST: Cedar is a perplexing case. Its academics are by far amazing! While, no, a student enrolled here will not have the same amount classes to choose from when compared to a student at a flagship DPS High School, the classes offered are still interesting and especially useful for acquiring college credit. Cedar should be especially proud of its college preparedness program, students are given time by the school to submit applications and work on everything regarding the college admissions process. They meet with advisors that actually know them, well. All, in, all DSST Cedar should be proud of itself, its academics are phenomenal, its classes interesting, and will prepare students for college. Yet, in every other possible aspect, DSST Cedar fails. It should not be proud of its extracurricular selection, with the school barely able to support its clubs, the school tends to aire on the cluiqe-er side, and with poor facilities outside classrooms. Senior: At Northfield High School, my overall experience has been great. School activities are outstanding and no school does school spirit quite like ours. We get to do events like color runs and all out spirit week which is so much fun. On the other hand some of the teachers at Northfield do not have strong systems to teach kids all the content they need. Especially in the IB diploma they do not really outline what each course is and so it's hard to know what we need to prepare for. Senior: School can be hard for many children, and it gets worse in high school. Growing up is never easy, but there is a place for everyone at DSST CGHS. It's easy to make connections with students and staff, and it's especially easy to create a better future for yourself. CGHS provides many resources that ensure a bright future after high school for any student. I believe that I would have struggled much more to figure out what I needed to be successful in the future, and my school has done much more than that. Not only do they ensure each student with a hard-working college counselor, but the community itself thrives each day on it's own. The students make this possible. Parent: The Girls Athletic Leadership School is amazing place! Middle school is such a pivot point for girls, and GALS provides their students with everything they need to succeed, to build solid friendship, and to value their individuality. The academics are rigorous, but the GALS series is the secret sauce. It's a three year course designed to make students "more aware of their individual and community identity, the skills to navigate through challenges and decisions successfully, and empowerment to drive them." Senior: The Academy of Charter Schools is an excellent school. One of its strengths is its sense of community among both students and staff. Everybody is extremely close-knit with each other since everyone has known everyone for years. At the Academy, the staff care for you and try their best to help you succeed. If you offer kindness and respect to staff, you will likely be met with leniency from them. Another strength of the Academy is its CE (Concurrent Enrollment) program. Essentially, you can take college classes at Front Range Community College and have those classes count towards both high school and college credits. This is paid for by the school and lets students save thousands in tuition if they choose to go to college (personally, I will be graduating will an associates at the same time as when I graduate high school). Parent: We've found DDES to be a fantastic, supportive school. The teachers and staff are really passionate about what they do, and it shows in the vibrant classrooms and creative lesson plans. The expeditionary learning model is perfect for our family — the kids can do deep-dives into topics and work together to build skills in problem solving, creative thinking, and confidence. Senior: Denver School of Innovation and Sustainable Design changed my life, for the good. It provided me with a multitude of resources that helped me prepare for college. I graduated with three college credits; more than most students I know who went to a traditional high school. The teachers build relationships with every student that walks in their classroom. I enjoyed every single one of my classes. Although the school doesn’t provide many extracurricular activities it makes up for it by having such an amazing environment. Senior: New Legacy is a great opportunity for parenting and ELD students! There are so many internal and external resources for students and their children. I am currently a parenting senior at New Legacy and I have had so many great experiences with this school. I am currently enrolled in a college class during high school hours in which they provide transportation and funding for. They also provide me with transportation home and to school no matter what. They allow me so many opportunities to be my best self and the best parent. Parenting students take a parenting class in which I have learned so much about parenting. They really focus on individual needs and how they can help you be the best student and or parent. This school is so amazing and I would recommend it to every teen parent or every ELD student. Senior: When attending DSST, it was very good. I received a lot of support from the teachers when struggling and was able to create really strong relationships with my teachers. Academically I was always pushed to do my best, even when having doubt in myself teachers were right behind me to show me I could. The only thing that I would change is that throughout the years it appears that middle schoolers entering the high school are getting more and more disrespectful. It turning much more from a very mature and disciplined school to schools that are known for trouble such as other schools like Aurora Central or Hinkley.
