Alum: When I started, I was indeed overwhelmed, but there were staff who were already ready and present to help the incoming students, including me. Throughout the first year, I was excited and loved to learn from the classes because of the teachers and the support I was given. Of course, each year it became harder. I experienced: interesting learnings in the classes, struggles with being consistent in motivation, and the usual ups and downs. The downs were how I struggled with procrastinating, consistency in attending classes, and home life affecting my mood and developing depression. Despite all that, my teachers were willing to listen and provide advice for my concerns. I would like to see the school continue what they are doing so far, Newton North High School is a very good school that has been recognized by other colleges. Parent: My daughter started middle school during the pandemic. The staff and students handled the transition last year well and she came out of the experience with new friends and academic growth in English Language Arts. Parent: This school is second to none. It has amazing, dedicated staff, the parents are down to earth and engaged and the kids are friendly. I actually moved to another school district in the city but requested to stay because Lincoln Eliot is really the hidden gem in Newton. The PTO is hard working and focused, the special education team is amazing, the educators are impressive, the janitors are awesome and the student body is beautifully diverse. Senior: This school offered a lot of support during the pandemic. Students were able to speak about their feelings and their opinions were valued. This school made being on zoom very interesting and educational. This school has raised me well and disciplined me with understanding on why having great behavior is beneficial to you and others. It is very diverse and has a lot of students coming from Haitian decent. There are lots of African-American teachers, the students feel comfortable seeing the amount of representation. This school is competitive in sports and encourage kids to participate in gym. Students do lots of hands on projects and work outside, and gardening. Senior: Edward M. Kennedy Academy for Health Careers is a good school for all. Weather you are a student that likes being academically challenged or a student that prefers to focus on other aspects of life, this school can be for you. Students overall are mostly focused in other aspects of their life such as sports, social life, etc. However, just because most students do that, it doesn’t mean you have to too. There are some blocks in which teachers allow you to do as you wish- Some students use it for studying, doing homework, old classwork, reading, etc and some students use it to play videogames, watch videos, etc… the point is that wether you have an academic focus or a different focus, this school can be for you.... Junior: Ive been attending community charter school of Cambridge for 4 years. The academics at the school are great. For my first two years at the school the behavioral system was quite harsh but it got better over time. The community is very close and loving and the teachers genuinely care about their students. Senior: Minuteman is a great school for students to find themselves and get a jump start on their careers. Academics are definitely on the easier side, however some, but less than most, are very extreme and unforgiving. Guidance department is strong and effective, however, the social services department is a complete joke. Counselors will likely not even remember the students name half the time. If your student needs 1/1 direct services or needs a special education room after middle school, this is simply not the school for them. Bullying is non existent and incidents are handheld well. Senior: The school is amazing in terms of education. The teachers are always there to help support you when you need help. Although, students at Excel Academy Charter School take initiative to talk to teachers when they need help. Especially, on that certain thing that they are confused on. They offer tons of sports at Excel Academy like the wrestling team which both pushes you physically and mentally, and the other sports like volleyball or basketball. Parent: We feel incredibly lucky to have our 3-year-old daughter enrolled in the KO program of the Dante Alighieri Montessori School. It is a unique learning environment that encourages independence, creativity, and most importantly respect for self and others. Since September, our daughter has cultivated an incredible sense of community responsibility and discovered a newfound curiosity for the world and people around her. These aren't often things you say about a 3-year-old, but I attribute much of this to her new school and teachers. She now finds joy and pride in completing tasks on her own, but also knows she can ask for help from her older peers if needed. It truly is a school community. Alum: I personally loved my experience going to McAuliffe. I graduated several years ago, but many things I was taught there still stick with me. I used to remind many of my peers that most of the time, it isn't the school: middle school is supposed to be terrible for everyone. There's no way around it. However at McAuliffe, they do their best to shape their students into better individuals. The teachers there put so much time and effort into their work and they want their students to have the best possible opportunities. There is an extensive range of clubs as well as many sports offered. The school is smaller than the other middle schools in town, but it fosters a welcoming and tight knit community. Instead of regular "specials" (gym, music, art) they offer unique classes (Adventure, Wellness, and T4L2/Design) that are different every year. Senior: This school has a strong academic curriculum and college and career readiness programs to help students be in the best shape that they can be for life after high school. They have an amazing support system through teachers, college and career counselors, and mentors. However, one of a few things that they're flawed in is staying consistent and being fair in some of their rule making. For example, they have a "ELH" rule that adds extended learning for students who miss any amount of class. However, they are not lenient towards doctor's appointments that can't be missed/rescheduled or any extremely personal circumstances. Alum: I was at this school for 2 years before moving away and I can honestly say at this school I had great memories. I have made friendships that I still carry to this day. The school does prepare you for the intensiveness of college and the school itself is very unique. The school revolves around being environmentally friendly, hence, why green is in the name. I was also given the opportunity to complete college classes, for credits at Bunker Hill Community College, while still in high school.
