Senior: For what the school lacks in facilities and strong sports team, it makes up with incredibly devoted teachers who work relentlessly to ensure that every student is getting the best education they can. The education succeeds other Atlanta private schools, despite being a free charter school. The spirit is strong as everyone knows each other and contributes to the overall life of the school. However, being a small charter school with minimal funding creates a lack of facilities and ability to have strong sports teams. Alum: My experience at Midtown High School. Four crucial years on my highs school experience summed up into a paragraph. I would begin by highlighting the welcoming environment. There’s always a teacher nearby if you are in need of help emotionally or physically. Transferring to Midtown High School from a third world country also showed me many new opportunities. An uncountable amount of clubs and after school activities inclusive to all students. If I would have to change something it would be the racial unconscious bias, I’ve tend to notice amount the staff of Midtown. Being a half split between white and black students it’s almost as if less is expected from the black students on a daily basis. The also shows in the lack of diversity among Ap classes. As the first time I pushed myself to take an Ap was my senior year, that class was Ap lit. Parent: 4 kids went through morningside. 2 special needs. Covid is hard, but the teachers and administration do well with safety and inclusion. Fifth grade is a great transition space to know if your special needs child is going to make it in middle school with minimal parent involvement. Executive functioning is tested in a safe and repairable academic environment. Parent advocacy for children is encouraged and welcomed. Community involvement is incredible, and that is really what makes this school work. The parents amplified the academic environment, so these parents are well educated and involved. Diversity could be improved, but Intown living provides opportunities in such that the suburban public schools lack more. Howard and Grady and more diversified if you stay in district through 12. Walking/biking to school is a big thing. We took advantage of this several mornings, then would do the bus in the afternoon as it was a bit far for the young ones unaccompanied for our house.... Junior: Honestly I do get tired of Drew at times since they isn’t many new students coming into the school. But I love my friends that I do have. I came to drew in 4th grade. I did make friends most of my friend group in 4th grade were also pretty much new students. Most of those friends left to go to private schools or elsewhere. They friend group that I have a great it’s just funny because it’s not like the friend group that I’m in currently we were not friends before we just weren’t as close as we are now. We’ve been friends for almost 7 years now. Most of my teachers are nice and helpful. Parent: I enjoy this school and appreciate it being an option away from the public school setting. New schools always have "growing pains", but then again older schools have their own set of issues as well. Since being at this school, I have had no concerns with communications with any staff. They have always been professional, polite, and attentive to my concerns. Does that mean we always agree? No. It definitely doesn't. However, I've never left a meeting or conference feeling unheard. In addition, I feel the staff genuinely is focused on what they feel will develop strong scholars meaning academics AND discipline. Most importantly, I feel my child is in safe environment to learn...and that makes all the difference. If I could change anything, I would suggest that academics remain separate, but integrate extra curricular electives such as Art and Coding to give some exposure to working with opposite genders in an academic environment.... Alum: I was at CSK for seven years! Being there for that long means a lot. But most importantly, it meant it was such a great school that my parents kept me their to build to my success. The supportive system that CSK has to offer makes sure that students get the individual attention and guidance they need to do their best. The clubs, sports, and organizations were my favorites interests at the school. They made you feel included and were super fun. Alum: Over all, my time at KIPP Atlanta Collegiate actually wasn’t bad. Honestly the worst part was really just getting through COVID and virtual. One major thing about KIPP is that they care so much about getting their scholars into college or any path they choose after high school. The connections with the KIPP Forward team is so helpful and KIPP really does embody the tru meaning of “To and through college”. Even though I wish that the school was bigger and of better quality such as better restrooms. Between the teachers and staff at that school, they really care about their students and they just want the best for us. One more thing, me personally, just 2.5 weeks until graduation, I was failing a class. For that first week, i was stressed out crying trying to figure out whether I was going to graduate or not. Parent: My oldest daughter started Kindezi O4W during the pandemic (2020) with virtual learning. She has thrived both during virtual learning and in person learning and has now started her third year at Kindezi O4W. I am very impressed with this school. I work at a local university, so good quality education is important to me. The teachers give their geniuses individually assigned tasks to further their strengths and work on those areas needing improvement. The teachers are in constant contacts with the parents and are genuinely enthusiastic about their jobs and the children they teach. The class sizes are small (14 kids: 2 teachers per class). I am delighted that our younger daughter just started Kindergarten at Kindezi O4W as well. Both of our kids LOVE this school, and wake up in the morning happy to go and learn and see their friends.
