Parent: Cross Creek Charter Academy is an amazing school! The teachers and staff are wonderful and do such a fantastic job at helping all children succeed in their education. The Moral Focus curriculum really sets Cross Creek apart from other schools. My children have learned from an early age what words like compassion, perseverance, courage and gratitude mean. Senior: Overall, I had a positive experience at City. I attended City from 7th through 12th grade, and will be graduating in just a week! City is certainly a very challenging learning environment. The classes are quite rigorous, partially due to the IB nature of the school. The IB element, though often challenging and confounding, does provide a comprehensive curriculum that covers more that what some schools might. The workload that City has, however, is very challenging, and I would argue unnecessary and unproductive at times. There were times at City in which I definitely struggled to stay afloat both academically and personally, and I think the workload was a large contributor to this. In the end, though, I am happy that I went though this, as it allowed me to overcome this academic hardship and further myself as a person. Junior: The experiences here are amazing! Being able to fly and build planes, work on real-world engineering projects, and go to school at the airport are very unique. Middle School Student: Of my time going here for the couple of days I've been here, It's a really good environment. I like how the teachers and staff are very committed to your overall success as a student. I would recommend this school to anybody that has a child that is considering, or anyone that wants to send their child to a school of excellence and believes in their Childs potential to learn and achieve. There are some Cons though. If you want your child to be in a challenging environment, full of expectations, I would recommend considering a different school. When I first got here, I noticed that the curriculum wasn't very challenging. I was then moved to Advanced Math. I wish they had more Advanced class options too. So far in Advanced Math, I still haven't had that challenge I've wanted. At my old school, they considered me a gifted and talented student. Senior: I would recommend Grand River Prep High School to any student wanting to challenge themselves in academics, however even an average student who doesn't want to challenge themselves can succeed. The school offers a variety of AP course included AP Calculus AB/BC with an addition of one hour of study time to any students taking three AP course or more. Tutoring are available twice a week. On Mondays after school, students can participate on a club of their choice or they can use that time for tutoring. Throughout sports sessions, the gym is mostly open to students wanted to train for conditioning or just want to workout. So the school is great, there is rare fighting breakout, the stuff is awesome, students are pretty diverse, I've had a good experience finishing my second of high school at Grand River Prep.... Sophomore: I wasn't doing too good at my old school. My grades were very bad and I got kicked out but then I found out there was a preparatory high school don't the street from me. So at the beginning of their second semester, I was able to start school and adapt to their learning style. I found out while at this school that I wanted to be a photographer with an entrepreneur degree. But that is not the only good part I started to get better grades because they took the time to help me understand the work than just rushing through it. Senior: I transferred to this school from a highly rigorous and much more populated school, and I was not disappointed! This school really is teaching its students to be environmentally conscientious, and be sustainable. The staff is kind and well-attuned to their students. Self-expression is encouraged and everyone is not afraid to be themselves. We are being educated on REAL-WORLD issues that other general curriculums will skim over. Middle School Student: My time at this particular educational magnet and establishment was pretty good. When I first got into this particular educational attraction, I was a bit disappointed. Not because the teachers or any of the staff were bad; actually, they were the best part of this experience. Generally, one of my few criticisms came from the educational criteria. Everybody was telling me this school was the best in the country, or best of the best. I looked up the rankings, and at the time, it was indeed one of the best 6th grade schools in the country. My first day of school, disappointing at how this "challenging and national recognized environment" wasn't much of a challenge at all. The only challenging part about it was trying to maintain good grades and passing tests with the many tests conducted frequently; maybe perhaps, way too frequent. The students are this school are generally pretty good. It really depends on the year. Last year, there were racist people, but this year, its pretty good.... Read 1 review

Senior: I really loved this school, I wouldn't suggest going there for a really long time especially if you want to attend sports and have big extracurricular activities. However if you want a small family and good bonds I would suggest it, and I have had a great experience here and wouldn't change all the memories or experiences for any other school. Senior: At Museum, we say the community is our classroom and we go on excursions and establish community partnerships. We use mastery grading: this eliminates the letter system that is notoriously different for every teacher and district. For example, I started a group to plan a trip to NYC for our graduating Senior Class. Since we are new, we don't have as many traditional events or clubs, and the ones we do have are run by students. There is no band or orchestra, but we have an amazing choir. Admin is overworked, and a few students in other grades have behavioral problems. The teachers are supportive, compassionate, and flexible. Sometimes we learn through games like the Science 11 CitySim month-long board game, or the Society and Self economy games. If you want to do something and you take initiative, they will help you because they actually care about you. Students that take advantage of this will thrive here. Senior: I have been at Uprep since 6th grade and I am currently a senior. Uprep is very different from other schools in both positive and negative ways. I love the small classroom sizes it gives the students more one on one time with their teachers. I also enjoy most of the staff because they go out of their way to teach the curriculum in fun engaging ways. I also like all of the opportunities we are giving starting in the sixth grade with reverse job shadows. Also making time to have mental breaks after PSATs or big test like in 8th grade when students who met the requirements were allowed to go to camp. I also think we are a very unique school because starting in 6th grade all the way until you graduate you have to do a presentation twice a year on what you have learned in each core class and what you plan to do to improve. The only negative I have is that we do not have a gym, auditorium, or a traditional library. I think these things will only make our school better.... Read 41 reviews
