Junior: My experience here was absolutely fantastic!! If you are on the fence at all about applying, definitely give it a shot. We have the best math, science, english, and social studies programs in the city, and they aren’t going anywhere soon. The football is kind of lacking, but our swimming, water polo, volleyball, and track/XC teams are stupendous. As with most schools in AISD we don’t have all the resources in the world because of recapture and the state, but we definitely make the most of what we have, the food is better than I expected for a high school, and our facilities are getting better year on year. Our college counselors (another perk of LASA) are a highlight of the school and help everyone (juniors and seniors) with college applications. Also, I cannot speak more highly of the elective diversity that we have. We have something for everyone, and I suggest looking through the course guide on the website. Freshman: When I first entered this school, it was the beginning of the academic year and COVID restrictions were still high. Still, it meant no more online meetings. This school welcomed me with open arms and continues to support me and other students for extracurricular activities. A four-hour school, this school supports students who partake in sports such as figure-skating and hockey, which take up most of a student's time. The teachers care for their students, and bullying is taken very seriously. The only thing I would add is extracurricular. This school was built for students with extracurricular activities yet doesn't have any sports teams. Another thing is, we don't have lunch or lockers like a typical american high school does. It is just a quirk this school has. It prepares students for colleges, and has education from Kindergarten all the way to 12th grade. Senior: The Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders really lives up to its mission statement. Having the chance to attend the school for up to 6 years, the students really create a strong relationship with staff and faculty! From 6th to 11th grade, girls are required to take field trips to colleges where they're able to feel what it's like being on a college campus. In 11th grade, girls get the experience of having the ability to be an intern at a company based on the pathway they chose in 9th grade : engineering, media-tech, or bio-med. Senior: Austin high is a place where you can find a variety of teachers and students. I have had some of the most committed and passionate teachers, and some on the other side. School spirit and sports vary, it’s what you make of it. The different academy programs also offer enriching projects and experiences that enhance learning. The programs make this large school feel smaller and more personal. I have enjoyed my time at AHS so much! Niche User: This school is very pleasing. There is acceptable behavior and learning here, and the students are also learning a grade ahead of their actual grade. Senior: My Experience with this school is good but not that good , some of the good things about this school is how it's all technology base, instead of textbooks we are provided with an Ipad to use in the school so you don't have to bring a lot in your backpack but you may need to bring some notebooks in some of the classes that you might have, it's also a small school filled about less than 200 students so it's great small school and very easy to get around than a large high school, another thing is that there are some days on Fridays where we have game night and its when kids spend the rest of the after school play games on some consoles that the school have,VR and board games , they also do themes on game night depending if theres a holiday or have some special days. Some of the issues I have with the school is there are not that much after school activities or have sports teams as well, and they lack the knowledge of applying and learning for college in the last minute for seniors.... Alum: I absolutely love Davis Elementary. It was the fist elementary school I attended where the teachers cared about their students' lives and education. The teachers helped any struggling students every way they could and rewarded those who achieved success. The parents were very involved and helped with many school events. The staff was enthusiastic about their resources and helped families with any issues that arose. The education at Davis greatly helped me succeed in middle and high school. Parent: Valor has been an incredible gift to our family. The teachers are joyful and attentive. The leadership and their vision for educating the whole person and cultivating wisdom and virtue in the students is inspiring. I love that they're reading quality literature and are being encouraged to think critically and engage in meaningful conversation. I'm amazed at the poems our kids want to recite for us over dinner. The math curriculum is excellent. I wish I had been taught math this way! There is a quiet joy in the hallway, where kids feel safe, nurtured, and fully present. I love that our older kids and younger kids can all be at the same school together and see each other often on campus. After trying several different schools, we have finally found our home! Sophomore: Overall, the school is good. Depending on your major, classes can be extremely challenging and not fun if you get stuck with a terrible professor. Campus feels unsafe at times with homelessness and a high crime rate in Austin. Food at the dining halls gets very repetitive. Other than that, every thing else is great! Senior: I love Crockett because of the people… the sense of community I receive from the staff and my peers. School spirit is big this year and it just makes everything better. School is not all about just getting good grades anymore. It is about looking forward to those fun classes, after-school and in-school clubs, sports, and fun community events. I love that I am more involved than ever and have built a strong relationship with all of my teachers over the years. If there was anything I wanted to change I guess it would be education. Crockett High School is a public school in Texas, so our resources are pretty low. We need to have better programs for those who want to excel. We also need to have better funding for our building. It floods pretty often… even when it is not raining. Parent: Austin Discovery School changed our lives. Our daughter has grown up in private schools, but the last private school she was at had severe bullying problems. This year has been amazing. From the teachers to the community and everything in between. She has grown more confident. She is never bullied. She is encouraged to be herself. She studies eco wellness (and loves it) and she loves the Wednesday hikes. Our daughter is the 98% on her Star test and is overall very bright, and this school has given her reasons to be excited about excelling further. She is not board like she was in other schools. I am impressed with ADS and look forward to having our son attend this coming year in Kinder. I hope you’ll consider ADS, the school focused more on your child then any other school we’ve been to.... Works Here: I've worked at HSE Austin for almost 6 years and although I've always enjoyed working here I can say the campus has made huge improvements in the last few years that benefit teachers, parents, and students.
