Parent: Menlo is one special place, and there's nothing like it in our area! Because 100% of the students are gifted, 100% of their education is too. Even though our local school district talked a good game about providing gifted learning to our daughter as a second grader, they did not deliver at all. Absolutely nothing. My daughter feels at home at Menlo. Everyone gets her and her uniqueness. She found "her" people, both fellow students and teachers, and I hear that a lot from other Menlo parents. She felt like an outsider and misunderstood at our local school, and she was always bored. Not at Menlo. The teachers are amazing! They care so much for their students, and teach at a pace appropriate for gifted kids (much faster than local schools). They constantly evaluate kids for readiness to progress to the next level up, and move them there when ready, regardless of what grade they're in, how old they are, or where they are in the school year. Alum: I think this is a great high school in all honesty. It offers exciting and interesting courses that no other Cleveland Metropolitan School District school offers. It also offers an associates degree in liberal arts and it does take some effort but the reward in the end is like no other. The teachers are fantastic and are willing to go above and beyond for their students and their experiences. The curriculum is very interesting and engaging. The arts program is especially great. Alum: Parma Community is a pretty decent school. I never encountered any bullying and I didn't feel like the teachers were treating anyone unfairly. In fact, it was often the other way around. Good teachers either quit or got fired because some students picked on them. Besides that, the classes were engaging and unique. I had the opportunity to take anatomy and forensics classes, and after I graduated they added environmental science to the curriculum! Unfortunately, they didn't have any official sports team when I was there & the most you'd get was playing a sport during gym class. Also, the school lunches were not great. Niche User: The very first day turned into an amazing experience, and that made me fall in love with this school. As a black girl from Africa, being around other students who understood me, and would not judge me or ask a lot of questions about my hairstyle was a big relief. Another great thing is that I did not only bound with black students but also various nationalities at the school. I got the chance to learn about other cultures as well. JMIT is amongst those schools in Cleveland, Ohio that requires students to wear uniforms but the uniform policy was not very strong and people usually showed up with regular clothes, putting them on a certain scale compared to those wearing uniforms. Other than that, this is a great school, it was my home, a very safe environment, where students, teachers work together to help students achieve their goals. Parent: My daughter has been at this school since second grade, and she will be moving onto high school after the current school year. The teachers and administrators here care about the individual child, and they go above and beyond to provide support for the individual child, whatever that may mean. The student body is diverse, the teachers look like they actually enjoy their jobs, there are no riots or major fights, and everyone seems to be included. They have all the normal classes but also gym AND yoga, gardening club, photography club, theatre club. There are only three areas in which this school could improve: 1) the food there makes me sad as a mother, 2) there are no sports offered, and 3) the IG schools don't extend their amazing program into the high school level. Senior: I can tell you that the best parts of high school for me include opportunities for socialization, learning new skills, and discovering my personal interests best high school experiences for me involve pursuing my passions and interests through extracurricular activities. For example, I am a student who loves music I have fond memories of performing in the school band , I am also a student who enjoys sports I have cherished moments of winning a championship game and bonding with teammates. I am also a students that have appreciated the support of a particularly inspiring teacher, who helped me. Regarding changes in high school, I want to see reforms in the education system to make it more inclusive, engaging, relevant to the real world. Others may want to see more emphasis on mental health support, career counseling, and extracurricular activities. Senior: I have had an astonishing experience with my High School Davis Aerospace and Maritime. They provided their students with outstanding opportunities. Through school, I received flight training, internship, and partnership with United Airlines. Davis A&M also exhibited diversity within the school halls. Niche User: My four years at RCCA was generally great however when planning for events or field trips things were always decided last minute, changed last minute, or not communicated. Such as not being told schedules for days with testing (SAT, OST, etc.) until the day of, this was the case for teachers AND students. Alum: Students should know that John Marshall School of Engineering provides a great platform for graduates to pursue development in their given field of interest while also attending a prestigious and well-maintained institution. Their teaching staff, resources and diversity of both alumni and subject taught will be greatly appreciated by any serious student, as well as prove useful for anyone who want to continue their education well beyond high school. The culture and administration are both exceptional, however if there was one immediate con which came to mind, it would have to be the college readiness. Because of the diversity of both classes and academics working, there are some classes which I personally found to be lacking in sufficient stock of supplies such as books, paper and etc. Again, this is likely one of the better schools one could attend in the Cleveland Municipal area. Senior: My school was very diverse and there are hundreds of people there all hailing from different backgrounds. I enjoyed the diversity and the new experiences I gained from going there. I learned a lot there and am glad I went since I had a very different school experience due to a different grading system and teaching method. The worst parts were interacting with those who did not want to participate in work but expected to graduate anyway, and those same people sneaking away from class to do drugs. Senior: I spent my whole high school experience at CHSDA. The diversity of this school is like no other. There’s no such thing as being an outcast because everyone finds there group with people with the same interest as them. The teachers really care about how well you are doing and they try they’re hardest to make you better. They even follow up with you after you complete their classes. Parent: I enrolled both my children in thos school 2 yrs ago, my daughter went on to magnific h.s. ,my son now 2nd grade. He has grown so far w this school. I am surprised its rated a C. O ask for my needs of my children and they truly have cared and addressed their needs for helping where they lagged. Its still thru 8th grade and teachers really teach the children and go above.
