Junior: AIMS is an interesting school is the easiest way to put it. The school itself is middle school and high school, yet holds about 600-800ish students. The faculty are close-knit, since it is so tiny, and the students practically stick with the same classmates they met in 6th grade. The academic course is excellent for those who wish to attend UNM afterward since the school is chartered by UNM, as you are required to take 30 college credit hours on top of your high school learning. The course load is best put manageable and is best for those who hold their academics higher than their extra-curricular activities. As it is free and requires you to help out with community service per semester, rigorous science fair and Rube Goldberg competitions, and college classes during high school, it is a niche for students who are willing to go through it, and also comply with dress code.... Senior: Cottonwood is an amazing school! Every teacher is dedicated to making each student feel at home. Although the workload can be a lot at times, it really has prepared me to know what college is like. It gives students a very good work ethic, and after being at this school for five years, I have learned so many things that have helped me in the real world. I love that this school offers so many different electives to help students get their creative juices flowing. As a senior this year, the IB Program has trained me to think like a college student. I will be very prepared when I graduate and will understand how lessons will be taught in college. I am very pleased with how this school runs and addresses important issues. This school is my home and is a safe place I can turn to. I have created so many friendships with kids in my classes as well as my teachers. Junior: This school is so amazing! Yes it's smaller that the bigger high schools in the city, but the classes, teachers, admin, and staff are so much better! There are only about 50 students per grade which allows for smaller classes. These small classes grant the ability to have more one on one time with teachers and staff. All the teachers are specially picked and have excellent training. Also because our school is small, you never get lost. We are also combined with Career Enrichment Center (CEC), which provides us with incredible career classes like World Languages, EMT, Nursing Program, Forensic Science, Vet Med, and so much more!... Niche User: College & Career High School isn't your typical high school. Junior: Amy Biehl is a wonderful school for kids particularly interested in humanities and the arts. It’s a great culture and it’s in downtown ABQ. Being able to not only have the school as a community but also the city, is really amazing and a great experience. Of course there are downsides of the location and of the school, but the support you have from the teachers and fellow students is wonderful. Junior: The teachers at Explore Academy who stick around for more than one year are fabulous. Steps have been made toward fulfilling the promise of being a "college prep" school, including starting PSAT testing in 9th grade and offering more advanced courses, but the school still falls short. Without AP classes or support for attending school outside of New Mexico, Explore Academy has some major steps to take.
