Alum: Class of 2019 Review: Pros: Academics - has a very academically stimulating environment - teachers push students to pursue their curiosities, particularly through the school's science research and independent study programs. Clubs - there are a wide variety of clubs and extracurriculars supported by the school. Reputation - the school is very well recognized for its academic rigor by top universities. Cons: Competitive atmosphere - the competitiveness of the school's students can be stifling at times, as it seems people care more about getting into college than the students around them. Senior: Rye High School is a school that is very much academic and athletic. The school spirit here is strong and many students here are nice and inclusive. The cafeteria in the high school gives you a wide variety of options to choose from (grilled section, main lunch, sandwich station, salad bar, etc.)Teachers are, for the most part, very outgoing with students, which increases the level of participation and fun in class. Academic wise, Rye High School does a good job preparing students for college and makes sure students maintain a good grade. Teachers have x-periods, which are times after school to help students study for an exam, go over any questions/material, or to talk with students. Teachers even make sure and are aware of tests in other classes and try not to have them all on the same day. Junior: I have been going to Bronxville for 12 years and although it is an extremely competitive environment, teachers are so helpful and it is all super manageable. The social life in Bronxville is super fun and seeing all the comments about drinking and drugs makes me sad because that is not necessarily true and honestly most high schools have more drinking and drugs than we do. Bronxville is so unique and it's such a great school! There's something there for everyone whether it is sports or the arts (which have become much more prominent in student life).... Senior: The education at Edgemont was fantastic, and I feel extremely prepared to go into college and then post-college whatever job I may search for. The teachers are passionate and knowledgeable and there are lots of opportunities to expand beyond the curriculum offered. Although it is a small school, there are still a decent variety of classes, and I've never found myself searching for something that wasn't there. However, Edgemont's community is generally very stressed out and sleep deprived, leading to a depressed student body and a generally not great vibe. There are plentiful resources for students mental and emotional healthy, but I've found that most students choose not to participate in those resources. Personally, I've had no issues with the culture in Edgemont, as I have plenty of friends and family who helped me get through the tough parts of high school, but I know a number of people who had a very different experience at Edgemont.... Senior: Blind Brook High School was an amazing experience for me. The classes and teachers were so helpful and definitely prepared me for each upcoming year. Extra classes are being added to Blind Brook so that there are more options for students to choose from, which can possibly lead to finding a new passion or future career. I would want to see a change in the number of students attending Blind Brook, the school is really small which causes only around one hundred students to be in each grade, this can be hard for people who move here to make new friends since everyone has known each other since kindergarten. Parent: My son started first grade this year as hybrid. Coming from a private school I was very irritated with the demands this and other policies placed on parents, at first. I quickly learned that the reasons behind these policies was for the kids and that they really care and do what makes sense for the kids over what is easier for the parents. When it came to the first conference with the teacher I did not expect that she would have known my son's strengths and weaknesses already. Senior: I’ll preface this by saying I don’t think I’m qualified to write a review. I’m not the best high school student by any means. With that out of the way, an honest review of Briarcliff High School would call it stellar. I moved here freshman year and I’m graduating this year. The schools reputation and resources versus my old school are night and day. I can confidently say if I stayed at my former high school, I would not be committing to the college I’m committing to today. Student outcomes really speak for themselves, we have more Ivy League commits then for large state schools this year. If you are planning to send your child here, the only thing I would warn against is clinging to this perception that it will automatically make your child smarter. For me, it obviously was not the case- did I end up going to a great school? Yes, but I would not call myself smarter then I would have been at my old. Compared to some of the other school districts I feel that our kindergarten teacher has the right ideas about homework. She gives a small amount and a week to complete. Middle School Student: Loved this school. I had such a great time here in 6th and 8th grade. However 7th grade was a little lacking. We had so much work and stress to get into the advanced classes and most of those selections were based by grades, and you could easily get in with the help of a tutor. They need a better way of deciding that. The sixth graders are very separated from the rest of the school though. But this all didn't matter because 8th grade was the absolute best!
