Parent: It’s the oldest public charter school in Utah and is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary. All three of my boys have attended all four years (5-8th) at SLArts. It’s been an outstanding school with dedicated faculty, low turnover, stellar arts curriculum including dance, music, visual arts and drama. The math/science teachers and curriculum are also outstanding. It received an A+ in the Utah Schools report card this year. If your student is an avid learner with good executive organizational skills and a passion for the arts - this is the school for you. SLArts is supportive of a diverse student body and creates an environment of deep learning. Be sure to put your child’s name into their lottery in 4th grade (usually closes by February), for consideration as an incoming 5th grader when close to 100 spots are available. Senior: Itineris Early College High School is an exceptional school. Everyone should consider putting their kids in this school. As a student myself, I have had so many opportunities at this school I wouldn't get anywhere else. For instance, Itineris offers Concurrent Enrollment and Early Enrollment college classes. This helps get high school credits, but also a chance at getting an Associate's Degree! That is one of the main reasons I went to this school. The teachers and counselors connect with the students amazingly, there are even college professors teaching here. Itineris is a STEM school so if you are interested in taking a career in that, I highly suggest this school. It gives you the college experience without officially being enrolled in one. Middle School Student: I am a 7th grader at North Star Academy. My School has athletics, academics, and fun. I am in a great environment with some wonderful teachers. I feel I am learning a lot, in History, Math, L.A., Art, Science, etc.. Here we follow SEM, we have testing out, and we know basic things like sentence structure that public schools teach in high school. Our school has three halls. Senior: I like the community at AMES. Everyone encourages each other to do better and challenge themselves. I have so many things that I probably would not have done without the encouragement of the AMES community. This includes things such as a difficult class I was hesitant to take or a volunteer experience I was unsure about. Now I am so glad I did these things. One thing that should change at AMES is College Forum. College Forum was designed to help us prep for college whether it was the admissions process or succeeding in college however, College Forum has not been very effective in my personal experience. Alum: I enjoyed my 4 years at West High. The teachers wanted the students to succeed and were willing to help if the student put in the effort. West High had many sports and extra curricular activities for the students so they could get more unblocked at the school and meet new people. There are many opportunities to learn more about the culture of others as West High School would allow students to express and teach others about their culture through food, music, clothing, and more during lunches. West also has an ELP program for students in the 7th and 8th grade who passed a test in elementary which would allow them to come to high school early and get a jump on classes. West High was very diverse and welcoming society for everyone. I played baseball, football, golf and wrestling throughout my years there and met many people I will be friends with forever. Alum: I came from a charter elementary and middle school to this huge public high school of 2400+ students, and I was totally thrown off. Come to find out, it was so much fun. The teachers are amazing, I had the best education of all of my friends that attended other public high schools. The staff and faculty are all super friendly and helpful and really help you succeed. I took a variety of honors, AP, and concurrent enrollment classes that really prepared me for college. There is a variety of resources, from early morning and after school tutoring, a fully stocked media center, computers for check out, you name it. The extracurriculars are phenomenal, I played basketball, volleyball, and ran track (all varsity) and loved every minute of it with great coaches and programs. Senior: The math program is great - the teachers I've had have all been super thorough and approachable, always eager to help me out with questions. Same with english and the other languages, I took French. I have always struggled with science but had an especially hard time here - it was a lot of endless lectures and confusing assignments... or maybe that's just me. Anyways the sports are great and as far as I'm concerned they are all well funded and recognized and supported by the rest of the school. I've made lots of friends here as well.
