Parent: We had the most incredible experience with George Washington Academy! All four of our kids attended this charter school, and it was truly amazing. The dedication and care shown by each teacher were beyond compare. They knew our children individually, working closely with them, and holding them accountable for their education. The teachers' commitment to our kids' growth and development was evident every day. One of our children faced challenges with severe dyslexia, but thanks to the exceptional resource team and the incredible 3rd-grade teacher, he fell in love with reading and going to school again. The leadership team at George Washington Academy is nothing short of outstanding. Parent: It’s the oldest public charter school in Utah and is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary. All three of my boys have attended all four years (5-8th) at SLArts. It’s been an outstanding school with dedicated faculty, low turnover, stellar arts curriculum including dance, music, visual arts and drama. The math/science teachers and curriculum are also outstanding. It received an A+ in the Utah Schools report card this year. If your student is an avid learner with good executive organizational skills and a passion for the arts - this is the school for you. SLArts is supportive of a diverse student body and creates an environment of deep learning. Be sure to put your child’s name into their lottery in 4th grade (usually closes by February), for consideration as an incoming 5th grader when close to 100 spots are available. Middle School Student: I am a 7th grader at North Star Academy. My School has athletics, academics, and fun. I am in a great environment with some wonderful teachers. I feel I am learning a lot, in History, Math, L.A., Art, Science, etc.. Here we follow SEM, we have testing out, and we know basic things like sentence structure that public schools teach in high school. Our school has three halls. Parent: Our 5 children have all attended Lincoln Academy over the past 10 years. We made the move to Lincoln Academy when our oldest child was in 6 grade based on Lincoln's superior Math and Language Arts curriculum, small class sizes, teacher child ratio as each elementary class and all junior high core classes have Teaching Assistants, ability grouping in math and the focus on history and science even in elementary school. The additional benefits we've learned as we've been a part of the Lincoln community for the past 10 years are: the incredible lunch program, that our children are known by name by every teacher, the opportunities our children have had to participate in leadership roles, sports and art programs they otherwise would not have had in larger schools. We also love that parent volunteers are welcomed and wanted in the classrooms and school. Parent: Overall, I love this school! I love how they teach based on the ability of the child and not the grade only. I have one child who is above his grade level and one who is avg and they teach to both. I also love the smaller class sizes which helps them have a better learning experience. The only areas of improvement I would like to see is, more Spanish (once a week is not enough to learn much) and the pick up process is pretty terrible. Parent: A very nice facility, located east of salt lake, teachers (specifically) 6th grade teachers are as good as the parents want them to be. If a parent expect the school to be perfect without getting in constant contact with the teachers, they are delusional. The school district is one of the best in the valley, the communication with parents and is constant and the academics are average. Middle school student: It's eh, teachers are fine, really depends, all have different learning techniques so it's kinda hard to keep up with them. Freshman: The best part of Fairfield Junior High is that it only one floor so you can move quickly to your classes. FFJH also pays special attention to sports and academics. Most of the teachers are excellent, helpful, and educated. One of the not-so-great things at FFJH is some of the top choices for the substitutes, and the food they serve for lunch. Most of the substitutes don't know what they're talking about and in the end confuses me and my classmates. The change I would like to see in the school is the food they serve to be healthier.... Senior: Leadership Academy of Utah is one of the best schools out there! The mentors are awesome and they really care about providing the best education possible for the students at Lau. Leadership Academy of Utah also pays for the classes, activities, school trips, school supplies, and more. People at this school really take learning seriously including me. I recommend attending at this school if you are able to get accepted. The only problem about this school is that you have to live in the state of Utah to be able to apply for the school. Williamsburg is technically almost the same as Leadership Academy of Utah so for those who live out of Utah can apply for Williamsburg instead. Freshman: Desert Hills Middle School is an absolutely amazing experience. The school is extremely well run and taken care of. Students are given every opportunity to grow and learn. The sports system, though slightly separated from the high school, is absolutely amazing. The biggest change needed is more solidified rules. At the beginning of the year a dress code was put in place, but was never followed. It was the same with a no phones without teacher permission rule. Other than that the school is great!...
