Senior: BASIS San Antonio Shavano Campus has academic rigor like no other. The emphasis on STEM subjects genuinely helps students to prepare for their futures, and with the help of the college counselors, their higher education. In addition, BASIS provides some degree of flexibility in scheduling, allowing each student to customize their own path and achieve their own greatness. However, no school is perfect, and aide from the expected antipathy of the students towards the immense workload, BASIS sports are less than ideal, even in the scope of the Charter League, and so are the arts, moreso fine than liberal. Senior: The learning environment was very rigorous but it helped prepare me for college. They teach you advanced learning techniques and have an open and welcoming environment with equality for everyone through the use of school uniforms. It is a safer environment than any of the public schools I went to before going here. I've been going here for 10 years and have made a lot of friends. They are also very good and supportive of students with learning disabilities like ADHD and Dyslexia and Disgraphia, as well as students with depression and anxiety. Senior: Because the school is smaller than your typical high school, the teachers were able to better help their students, and I really appreciated how well they take care of everyone. The moment you start slipping up academically, they talk to you and give you options to help such as after school study hall, or they might email your teacher in the class you need help in and set up tutorials. Parent: All three of my children have been at this school. Well my son went when it was named BETA and he went on to Science Academy and now at UTRGV medical school obtaining a PhD. My oldest daughter graduated last year 2023. She is now at Lamar Academy doing very well . STPA prepared her for a challenging curriculum. She had mastery on all EOC both grade level and high school. My youngest will graduate this year and is very happy she also has mastered grade level and high school EOC so far. I like the fact you can stay in your own grade but advance several years in various subjects such as math, English and social studies. Lamar Academy does not allow you to skip English 1 even with a mastery level EOC. You will have to audit English 1 and get a grade that will not be calculated into your GPA. You do not have to repeat the EOC if you passed. Overall the teachers there are amazing and inspiring. Many of the parents are tigers like myself and I think that combo allows for greatness.... Senior: I love IUniversity Prep! I joined the virtual school environment in sixth grade and have thrived since then! I enjoy boasting about the school's welcoming and encouraging environment with students from all different backgrounds. While academic work is all virtual, live lessons (virtual classrooms) enabled me to connect with teachers and students. Through my years at IUprep, I realized that every teacher wants you to succeed and will do everything in their power to help you to do so. Alum: Irma Rangel YWLS was an amazing school that truly prepared me for college. From the moment I began my journey at that school, they implemented good habits in order to keep up with the work that we got and extracurricular activities we had. Rangel is known for its excellent academics, but it doesn't only focus on the academic aspect; they focus on their students' mental health and provide different ways for students to have less stress on them. I also loved being able to connect more with the community through various clubs that allowed me to participate in multiple service events. Middle School Student: Great school! The sports programs are perfect for athletic children! There are many clubs and after school activities offered! WRMS provides lots of opportunities for students to advance to higher classes. In fact, it’s more than likely a student will be in a pre-ap class than grade level class. Parent: One of the best campuses for rigorous and advancement curriculum. The Teachers are one of the most supportive and understanding educators that strive to provide students with the best. I highly recommend this campus for your 7th and 8th grade students. Students are expected to participate, be productive, be present, punctual and polite. Their academics prepare students for High School and are expected to complete projects, homework assignments and be involved in clubs. Parent: This school is a great fit for my kids but it’s not for everyone. In our experience the academic aspect is very strong. I like that the teachers don’t just teach to the staar like surrounding districts. However, it appears most teachers are still covering the staar material as 2 of my kids received perfect scores on the math and reading staar several times. The sports and extracurricular activities are limited compared to surrounding districts but most people who choose this school are aware of this and don’t expect the same. We actually prefer the low-key aspect of the sports since it allows kids the opportunity to be on their school team in sports they might not have a lot of prior experience in. Most the teachers and administrators have been very responsive when I have a concern. It seems some people who have issues don’t really research what the IB curriculum is actually like or what sports and extracurricular programs are offered before choosing to send kids here. Parent: BASIS syllabus are extraordinary, especially Mathematics, and science. teacher's dedication is beyond word! That administration is friendly and they are ready for our questions anytime. I had been lived two different country and also this my first experience at BASIS. My son was attending his 5th grade through the distance learning due to the pandemic, 2020-2021 academic year classes are very effective for kids and teachers are engaging them efficiently through the online. Syllabus, teaching method and study materials are fabulous. Initially, my kid scared to learn more than one language but when he entered BASIS he is learning two more languages confidently other then English. Junior: People often hear the "all girls" thing and immediately create their own ideas of what our school is like without even going there a day. Talkington SYWL has been ranked THE best school in Lubbock year after year for a reason. Whether you want to talk about the incredible educators and staff, the close bonds with your classmates, the tight-knit community, or the beyond-amazing educational opportunities, there are endless things to celebrate about Talkington. I have been attending since the Fall of 2018, and I have never once considered another school. We push ourselves academically here, all while creating incredible bonds and memories. We don't have typical high school events (football, etc.), so we have/create our own (which many consider to be even more fun)! The tight bond I feel with my class is something so special.
