Alum: I loved the people, and the education itself was incredible. I was challenged and supported academically in order to better succeed in college. I loved the teachers, and their willingness to help you in any way they could really was apparent. As an alumni now, I am proud to say that I went to such a well rounded school, and their initiatives to promote diversity and empowerment really added to my takeaways, and experience as a whole. One thing that I did not love about Bromfield was that it was often strict and biased on expectations. For example, we had a dress code that was often only directed towards female students. Additionally, if you were a star student or athlete, you were often exempt from punishment or rules, or had a slap on the wrist, whereas for anyone else, the consequences would have been much greater. All in all, this is a very minor issue in comparison to the many positive aspects of the school. They strive for greatness, and they give us the opportunities to do so.... Read 72 reviews

Middle School Student: I think that McCall is a wonderful school. It has great teachers who care about their students and plenty of time to do homework. The only thing that is a problem is diversity. Middle School Student: I went to Heath School for grades K - 7, and I overall had a okay experience there. 6th grade was my best year, as during the COVID-19 shutdown, I became very close to a Maths teacher who used to work there, and she was always very kind to me. She was a wonderful teacher too, as she helped build an understanding and love for Mathematics with her students. However, in 7th grade, after she had stopped working at the school, I found out that I could not keep in touch with her because of a rule, which made me feel very sad, as I miss her.... Parent: The staff responsiveness (teachers, administration, counselors, etc) was amazing throughout middle school. They have a wonderful way of encouraging independence & self-advocacy in students & we saw our student grow tremendously in this respect. The teachers make themselves accessible. The school counselor was phenomenal, both caring & proactive. The hard part was social, the students tend to segregate themselves over time, mostly racially. It's also challenging for anyone with cultural differences and for the socially awkward. More student & parent programs encouraging speaking out against bullying may help prevent some of the bullying and cliques inherent in middle school. More educational programs about diversity and acceptance may help too, given the relative lack of diversity in the student population. It’s a clean, well-maintenanced school and has a good layout, as seventh grade classes are concentrated on one side of the school and eigth grade classes are concentrated on the other. There is not much diversity besides a bunch of Jews and Asians, but there are people with many different interests, so it isn’t hard to find a friend group with similar interests. Parent: Despite complaints from other people, I have seen the difference in education between Brookline and other school districts and feel it's worth the investment to live here. I do think it's easy to fall behind if you are not very active with the teachers. My advice to the school administration is that they need to enforce that all teachers keep up with Canvas as much as they expect students to turn in materials in a timely manner. Niche User: Most of the teachers are great, but there are issues with older teachers who make everyone's lives difficult sticking around and amazing younger teachers being let go for no reason. I went to this school from Kindergarten to 7th. The kids are (mostly) nice, the guidance counselors are amazing and you will meet students from all walks of life here. Middle School Student: I'm a current student (8th grade) at RJ Grey. I've met some amazing people here, but the academic pressure is a little too much; this year, I can work on homework for a little over five hours. Middle School Student: There couldn't be a better middle school. The teachers at this school are as perfect as is humanly possible. The variety of subject matter and activities offered allowed me to discover myself. When I lost my luggage on the eighth grade Washington D.C. field trip one teacher purchased me all new clothing and toiletries with their own money. Every member of the staff at this school loves the students like they're their own children. I had fun, learned a lot, and made many friends. Best three years of my life!
