Sophomore: I have gone to the school since kindergarden and there are many good things about the school in its many clubs and programs such as our fairly decent sports program, wood shop, design lab, robotics lab and more! However the school does have many shortcomings as there are some teachers who are not too great to say the least, the school scheduled changes literally every single year as it hasn't stayed consistent for more than 2 years since 2016, and there is alot of homework, like alot of homework. The average day in the school can consist of around 3-4 homework assignments from my experience so if you do go here be prepared to loose sleep trying to finish assignments and projects. Overall if you are considering trying to get into this school it is a charter school that only accepts gifted kids so you need to reach that benchmark on an IQ test so overall I would recommend trying to go somewhere else just purely because of the workload this school has.... Sophomore: Small school, with great college prep. As a student I've been told 100% of graduates have gone to college, which I think is nice. I'd say the teachers are better than average. Some classes, such as Intro to Innovation feel like a waste of time, if I'm completely honest. However, most classes provide you with very useful information, and there's lots of room for expansion by your Senior year, such as math going all the way up to Calc 3 Differential Equations. Sophomore: D’Evelyn’s a great school for those who are willing to challenge themselves. There isn’t a lot of drug use or violence. However, due to its focus on academics, things like extracurriculars, sports, and “fun” classes are substandard. Due to its difficulty, your GPA suffers. Only colleges in the area compensate for the difficulty on the school in admissions. On the other hand, D’Evelyn really prepares you for college. The students are also a little snobby. Middle School Student: It isn't actually that much more HW than other middle schools, it's just a stereotype. Great School. There is a bit of HW, but don't all middle schools. It's not all education. Yeah, the teachers and administrators want you to be smart, but Summit students are good at a variety of things including sports, integrity, and kindness. This school also prepares you well for high school and college, which isn't a bad thing. Sometimes it's hard to take up a lot of activities outside Summit, but the teachers are flexible. Those who don't like this school just came in thinking they wouldn't like it, so their brains didn't let them. Middle School Student: Ive attended since fourth grade, and Id like to begin discussing the application process. Its difficult to get into this school unless you have a sibling who has attended or is presently attending at Challenge. Obtaining a recommendation letter from your current school's teacher is also an easier option to gain admission to the school. When it comes to clubs, the school is fiercely competitive, particularly in lego robotics, TSA(Technology Student Association), Chess, and Math Club. The school places a lot of emphasis on writing and math. However, I wish the school would have its own sports team because I know a lot of athletes that go to different places to participate in sports. This school welcomes diversity, and kids who join clubs like WEB, PACK players, and another one that I cant recall right now get to lead assemblies that discuss topics that children should be aware of(eg: bullying). Alum: Denver School of the Arts was overall a very enriching experience when it came to furthering my skills in the arts. The resources provided for this course of study were phenomenal. The main concerns I would raise for any incoming students are that: #1) While this school can be very beneficial for someone looking to follow the arts, it can often be difficult path for someone who has decided that the arts are not for them. Many students decide that they would rather pursue a different passion in life by the time they are seniors. This can make the highly art centered environment fairly hard to be a part of. Especially since there are no sports! #2) The school spirit is generally lacking. While there are many school sponsored events that students can attend while enrolled at DSA, many of them revolve around individual art forms. Parent: Our son is a graduating senior (2023) and we can't be happier at STEM. He was part of the first elementary class (grade 5) and has been at STEM ever since. This has allowed him to develop close friendships with peers, great relationships with teachers and staff, and a solid career path at age 17. He will actually graduate from college with an Associate's degree in Cybersecurity before he graduates from high school! This was made possible with participation in P-Tech and the Concurrent Enrollment programs. He is now well-prepared for college and for life. If your child shows propensity for engineering or technology, math or science, STEM will nurture those gifts and provide many opportunities to shine, not only through advanced classes, but also enrichment including Tech Student's Association, Computer Science Honor Society, BEST Robotics,Cyberpariot, paid internships, and more. Middle School Student: I'm currently an eighth grader in the junior high, and this is possibly going to be one of my favorite years in school. I don't come from much, and I have had a rough time with the previous schools I had gone to. My fellow peers are incredibly kind and welcoming, and I feel like I belong. The electives are varied and are taught well, heck, even me, a more academic rounded student, enjoyed the art/music electives and felt like I was successful. On top of that, the faculty and teachers are very kind and supportive, and I think I'd leave the school being prepared for freshmen year. The downside is that there is the occasional slur said, drug use is fairly common, and there is a lot of mental health issues (which, they're trying to address during the mandatory health classes).... Alum: My siblings and I went here. The education is fantastic and there are lots of great opportunities for clubs and extracurriculars. Sometimes the school is too intense with coursework which isn't great for stress, but college for my siblings and I was super easy by comparison. I'd say the teachers are mostly fantastic and super memorable, and the bad ones never last long. My main complaint is the administration. Senior: Challenger Middle School was a nice middle school to go to. Being taught at a rural elementary school, Challenger provided a decent transition to a suburban lifestyle, fairly good academics, and a wonderful faculty. Much of the administration was average, mostly carried by the excitement and will of the teachers, librarians, counselors, etc. The high school readiness was a but stale because of a lack of high school transition classes during 8th grade, but was overall a good experience from being an adolescent to becoming a teenager....
