Honeoye Falls-Lima Middle School
6 Best Public Middle Schools in Rochester Area
- Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District, NY
Parent: I really enjoyed the HFL school district. We have experienced a family tragedy and the school administrators, support staff, educators, etc. have all been incredibly supportive.
The curriculum and instructor availability has been terrific. All personnel are easy to communicate with and are forthright and supportive in their communications with students and parents.
Sports has been somewhat frustrating; as many parents push coaches/other personnel into decision-making that should be made without parental involvement. This is often at the expense of other children. I have experienced this on every level and its too bad that the athletic administration is weak in this regard and all sports are not treated equally,.

Green Meadow Waldorf School
- Private School
- Chestnut Ridge, NY
- PK, K-12
Parent: Green Meadow is an incredibly special place. We sent our daughter there for ten years and our son is currently a sixth grader. Waldorf education is very different from mainstream education, so if you are considering this school, that’s the first thing you need to figure out. Waldorf education focuses on the body, mind and spirit - with the arts considered as important as other subjects. They teach math and science in really exciting, creative ways. The kids get a LOT of outdoor time, which is wonderful. Green Meadow is a particularly strong and well-established school. It has an amazingly gifted and dedicated teaching staff, and a thoughtful and responsive administration. Sure, there are some small dramas that happen, but in general, this is an excellent school with a dedicated and supportive community.

The Studio School
- Private School
- New York, NY
- PK, K-8
Parent: My 10 yo is in her 6th year at Studio School. We could not be happier with the education she is receiving. She is filled with enthusiasm about Reading and Writing. The children are writing their own stories, and learning grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, and spelling in the process. She is excited about all of her work, and comes home from school ready to dive in to her homework. I am very impressed with the skills she is mastering at Studio. Studio's homework philosophy is also invaluable. Homework is between the teacher and the student and you should not be involved in ensuring that your child does his/her homework or checking it. I was skeptical at first, but it works! My daughter tells me that she has to get home early enough to have time for homework, or asks me to wake her early so she can finish an assignment. She is learning academically, becoming responsible for herself and her work, and she loves going to school. We can't recommend Studio School highly enough.
