Middle School Student: I went to Heath School for grades K - 7, and I overall had a okay experience there. 6th grade was my best year, as during the COVID-19 shutdown, I became very close to a Maths teacher who used to work there, and she was always very kind to me. She was a wonderful teacher too, as she helped build an understanding and love for Mathematics with her students. However, in 7th grade, after she had stopped working at the school, I found out that I could not keep in touch with her because of a rule, which made me feel very sad, as I miss her.... Niche User: I went here 10 years ago for elementary school only. It was neat. A lot of the teachers were skilled and really cared about their jobs, and the resources to support me when I had a mental health crisis were pretty extensive as well (if maybe a bit heavy on transferring responsibility to someone else at first.) I don't know if the same nurse still works there, but she was an especially wonderful, caring resource. I learned everything I needed to be prepared for higher grades here, and some extra things. It’s a clean, well-maintenanced school and has a good layout, as seventh grade classes are concentrated on one side of the school and eigth grade classes are concentrated on the other. There is not much diversity besides a bunch of Jews and Asians, but there are people with many different interests, so it isn’t hard to find a friend group with similar interests. Parent: The staff responsiveness (teachers, administration, counselors, etc) was amazing throughout middle school. They have a wonderful way of encouraging independence & self-advocacy in students & we saw our student grow tremendously in this respect. The teachers make themselves accessible. The school counselor was phenomenal, both caring & proactive. The hard part was social, the students tend to segregate themselves over time, mostly racially. It's also challenging for anyone with cultural differences and for the socially awkward. More student & parent programs encouraging speaking out against bullying may help prevent some of the bullying and cliques inherent in middle school. More educational programs about diversity and acceptance may help too, given the relative lack of diversity in the student population. Alum: I loved the people, and the education itself was incredible. I was challenged and supported academically in order to better succeed in college. I loved the teachers, and their willingness to help you in any way they could really was apparent. As an alumni now, I am proud to say that I went to such a well rounded school, and their initiatives to promote diversity and empowerment really added to my takeaways, and experience as a whole. One thing that I did not love about Bromfield was that it was often strict and biased on expectations. For example, we had a dress code that was often only directed towards female students. Additionally, if you were a star student or athlete, you were often exempt from punishment or rules, or had a slap on the wrist, whereas for anyone else, the consequences would have been much greater. All in all, this is a very minor issue in comparison to the many positive aspects of the school. They strive for greatness, and they give us the opportunities to do so.... Read 74 reviews
