Senior: Great staff, Awesome location, and the best academics in Colorado! Set in the beautiful Rocky Mountains this school offers a unique learning experience to all who attend. The staff is fun and devoted to making sure that the students achieve the skills to function in everyday life beyond high school. Because of the extremely small nature of the school, bonds between peers are super tight and everyone always has each others back.

Junior: The teachers are amazing. We would have a lot more money if not for all the school-funded activities, but those are worth it as everyone in the school takes more away from those than they would newer books. There is amazing flexibility in schedules, and I managed to take AP courses every year. They even have AP tests for the one student in the school in that class. I mean, seriously. This place is great.

Ridgway High School
#106 Best Public High Schools in Colorado

Senior: I’ve been at Ridgway since I was 4-years-old. As a high schooler, you won’t meet a community of students and teachers who care for each other more than those at Ridgway. Kids who want to do well will be given the tools to succeed. Kids who don’t care will be pushed and have an opportunity to rise. While the school is 99% white, this is not a reflection of a lack of acceptance and kindness, but rather a perpetuating trend on the Western Slope. The school does its best as a small, public school and offers as much college-preparatory and AP classes as possible with a small staff. The ACT/SAT and college application preparation is minimal but these services are something that can be sought out outside of the school in the way of private counselors. Ridgway has given so much to me throughout my education here and I have appreciated the unique opportunities that such a small school and community can provide.

Montrose High School

Alum: Montrose High School while my experience there was by no means terrible, could use some improvement! I believe that there were a lot of great initiatives by teachers that should have been given more consideration as well as funding! The school in general had a misguided way of spending money, opting to buy iPads for the entire school after applying for a grant when other thing were far more in need, updated textbooks, classroom remodeling, higher pay for teachers so that teacher retention is higher. I think that certain things like the arts programs are genuinely under great direction and could use more funding and attention from the school! (Though I might be biased). But the arts are an important part of any school! I think that with a little bit of redirection of efforts at the high school, that Montrose High School could see great improvement in the near future!
